Default 968 Crank Girdle to loctite or not

I put my 968 engine back together with the shop manual and did not see anything about loctite between the crank girdle and the block.

Just saw a video of a 944 rebuild and Von had used loctite on the 44 girdle

Looked at a couple of other posts about this and it seems standard fare

Looked back through the 968 manual I was using and nothing.

What do you think, pull it apart and put it in????

Maybe they changed it on the 968 but the 944 manual calls for loctite.

Per the 968 wsm; Section 13-26 dismantling and assembling the crankcase, crankshaft.

"clean and degrease sealing surface, apply Loctite 574 to seal"

yup loctite 574 is called for, loctite 518 is actually what I use and either one is ok. 518 is more viscous and much easier to work with. 518 is the official FAA sanctioned substitute for 574 so if its good enough for aircraft its good enough for my porsche.

Has anyone tried Threebond for this application? I used this on a motorcycle a while ago and liked the way it worked. I've read it's popular with both the motorcycle and air-cooled VW crowds in the same applications as 574.

Thanks everyone. Pulled it back apart today and put the loctite in... Scary as every time I torque anything on those aluminum blocks I feel like Im 1 ft/lb away from disaster.

Anybody have a couple of good photos of a 968 complete engine from all angles so I can see some of those wire harness washer/clip locations. Have several of these in the parts washer and I did not take good pictures before disassembly as I should have. This would be really helpful as most of my Porsche manual stuff does not show these little tabs on the balance shaft housings etc....

Thanks John
