Default Help me quiet a 85.2 NA down! Please!

I recently bought a nice little 1985 and a half NA car.

Previous owner rebuilt the car 10.2 to 1 pistons, Turbo valve springs, turn crank, ceramic coated headers, lightweight flywheel, high flow filter kit, web cam, lightweight alum pressure plate, etc.

THEN......the exhaust. Mother of god is it terribly loud. It is not a good fit for my neighborhood. It has one of the "ricer" looking muffler and tips, and then runs straight back a far as I can see. I see no other muffler or resonators.

Short of finding a kid that wants to trade a stock exhaust for this stainless "performance" exhaust, can any of you recommend a quick fix?

Or anyone in FLA willing to trade for a tamer exhaust?

Put a cat on the car and it will quiet down a lot.
Bigger muffler will help as well.

A cat will go a long way to quieting it down, if thats not enough, you can throw a resonator in the mix as well.

Thanks for the replies.

I will start with a Cat, and see how well that works.

Cat will help for sure, but that looks like a magna flow race muffler or another brand, strait through type. I have a magnaflow race muffler with a cat and it is still pretty loud, you should just go to a muffler place and have a magnaflow chambered muffler welded on, should be no more than 175.00 out the door.

How does that car run with all those goodies??

I have a similar looking exhaust, it was the cheapest stainless cat-back I could find at the time and my stock exhaust was broken. My brand is OBX, its obnoxiously loud even with the factory cat in place.

Yeah I have the same exhaust on mine. Definitely an OBX cat back. My car also has no cat so yeah it's really loud. However I really like how it sounds. Not the volume, but the tone of it reminds a lot of old 80's rally cars. Sounds sweet at the top end, and has a nice aggressive punch after a quick shift. And the burbles and pops on decel... This is my weekend toy so I like it to be a bit on the aggressive side.

I'm planning on welding in a vibrant ultra quiet resonator. Seems to be really good at dropping the rasp and overall volume while still maintaining the character of the exhaust.

My NA car has a resonator in place of the cat, and a stock-ish Bosal muffler. Barely louder than stock and fits the car well... sounds european and not ricey.
