Default So it begins

I officially put the 944 on the road today . Title , tags and insurance done . I had to sneak out of work early to be able to do it but I am glad it is done . I have tires being put on Thursday . For now , I am just going to ride and enjoy it . I am going to paint the rear euro bumper as soon as I get a lower diffuser . Spacers are in the works as well . Other than those things , not much else will get done til winter . Crappy pic for proof ( we all know , pics or it didn`t happen ) .

The safety inspection is always the thing I dread most, so I know how it's good to get that stuff done. I found a shop near me that's owned by a couple of old hot rodder geezers (about my age). I took my 951 in last week and one of them did a walk around. He says to me later.... I signed you off but there's no way we can get that on / off our lift. Hell, we'd have to Jack it up to get the lift arms under it.... I just laughed. Bruce

Webber,

I was thinking about getting antique plates when I get my 951 back on the road (hopefully next week). I'm hesitating though because of the restrictions with that type of plate. Its not my only ride but still would like to drive it into work several times a week. I'm in the Richmond, VA area FYI if it doesn't show on my profile. Would be nice to have one less vehicle to get through inspections though...

Congrats on getting the car sorted.

PLEASE do yourself a HUGE favor and get the antique plates. I have antique plates on all of my 944s.

1. No state inspection (I dislike the inspection with a passion)
2. Or emissions for that matter
3. Much cheaper insurance (my 944 turbos costs me $40 every 6 months)
4. One time registration of $50
5. I think the black plate looks good on our cars (and maybe an excuse to run no front plate)

I'm not sure what Virginia's laws are like but in Colorado when you get the antique plates you have to sign an agreement that it won't be driven more than a certain amount of miles each year. They don't check the mileage on your car so it's entirely based on the honor system.

I have had them on any car I've ever had that qualifies for them and have driven some of them daily. I've never had any issues and never heard of anyone getting in trouble for exceeding the mileage limit for their license plates.

That being said, I suppose it could happen and could possibly be a federal crime being that it deals with a government mandate, so do it at your own risk.

I won`t be driving this on a regular basis . I might have put 1500 miles on my corrado last year , so between the 2 along with my truck and the company van , I shouldn`t have any problems . I am also going to pickup a 914 first of next month for a build along with an engine swap . I do tend to keep busy
