Just thought I'd poll the room for those that went without this holiday...

I really think it should be federal law that people actually get holidays off, paid. What's the point of declaring a day a holiday if not EVERYONE except emergency services get the day off?

I make it a point not to shop on Sundays or holidays. It's not fair to those folks who are forced to work on those days. People will complain when family members can't make it to a Sunday dinner because they have to work. The same people seem to have no problem flooding the malls for that so called Memorial day sales.

I as well never shop on this day, the exception is if traveling and having to stop for fuel or food.

As a Federal employee it was always a paid day off..... and since I took an early retirement, it's a day off but until I get another decade or so under the belt, won't be getting paid for it.

I feel it is a day which deserves more honor than what it receives. After all, it IS the day set aside for us to commemorate, to remember our fallen heroes. To those who gave their lives for our freedom and for many, many countries freedoms. A service and honorarium attended are the least we can do to remember those heroes; it sickens me commercialism has defiled their honor by choosing to cash in and make people work in non essential services on this only day of memorial. ( we also have Veterans day which also gets defiled the same way, but this day is for all Veterans and not like Memorial Day which is for the deceased Military service members.

I was off and collected my 8 hours from Toyota, lol. I sat around and worked on my cars and spent time with the kids. Couldn't have a better day.
