Is the new Corvette really so Great?
My buddies and I got into a conversation about domestics and imports. I kept naming overall best cars off. The only thing they came back to was the Vette. Is it really that fast, best handling. I told them to take on the track when it was raining... they all shut up.

supposedly it's really good, couldn't say from experience by any means .. only vette I've ever driven was a '76 miserable ****box. I guess the srt-10 viper is amazing as well. Can't speak for that either. Both of their write ups have been awesome though

Of course witht he latest Vette they came up with a great idea.
They put the transmision in the back.
Wonder where they got that idea.

Had a Z06 for a weekend and a Convertible for a few days as well.
I am a die hard Porsche man, but these are really fun cars.
Could not wipe the from off my face when I had the Z06..wow!
The 6 speed Convertible was a blast as well.
The interior could have been better put together, but from a driving fun perspective I think the new Corvettes are great machines.
Just my .000002 cents

It's a great car with excellent engineering behind it. I've driven a student's C5 on the track and it's well balanced, handles very well with a good ride and has great power.
And if I needed to turn a fast lap time in the rain, I'd take a C5, with it's traction control and stability control, over my 951 any day.
And if we're talking about the z06, it's all of the above with more power, better suspension and brakes. Given the same driver, a z06 will run comfortably with a 996TT all day.
From a style standpoint it's not my cup of tea but it's tough to argue a Z06 not one of the best all around sports cars available and even more so when you consider it's price.

The z06 specifically is a really great car and gives you some of the best "bang for your buck" when compared to simlarly performing cars. Wouldn't be my choice for a $50000+ car, but I certainly wouldn't pass up the chance to drive one.

they are not the best at auto crossing. and if you own one most likely you are having your mid-life crises, you have grey hair, dress nicely most everywhere you go, and you drive like my gandma. but this isnt always the case.
i remember an article i read on car and driver. it was a competition between modified super cars. the top two performers were a lingenfelter Twin turbo corvette and a autothority stage V 996TT. the 996TT beat the vette at acceleration, stopping, track times, slalom, and i believe top speed. the only thing the vette won was the 100-150 MPH acceleration. but for some odd reason that was enough to give the victory to the vette.

Not the best at autocrossing?? Check your local SCCA times the next autoX!! And in that link you posted, the LPE Vette did finish the course quickest. As for your stereotyping the purchaser, open your eyes.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Even the 1996 with the Grand Sport package is one hell of a car. 330hp with a 6-speed. Solid chassis even though they do rattle. A friend just bought one with all kinds of Legenfelter goodies for under $14k with under 50.000 miles on it. A 951 can't beat that bang for the buck.

I used to have a '95 Vette while I still had my old 944. She was wonderul, I got such a kick out of driving either car!
I lost control of the Vette withing the first week of having her, while driving through Laurel Canyon, in the Hollywood Hills; I slipped on some oil, and I thought I was going to lose the car! Anyway, the computer took control, and dispersed the energy to the appropriate wheels, and I regained control in seconds!
Ergo it seems logical and possible that the current Vettes would respond just as well if not better in the rain.
