Cool BMW 330 vs Audi A4 3.0

Yet another request for knowledge.

I previously asked how the 330 may compare to the 968. Since I am removing the 968 from the list because I want a warranty, I am looking at teh Audi A4 3.0 as a competitor to the Bemmer. Wow did I just type Bimmer......bummer.

I really like the BMW and that straight 6 is great. From what I've read, the A4 3.0 is right there with it and even has a great 6 spd (according to Car and Driver).

Does anyone own or know what the Audi is like to live with? I'd appreciate you sharing your experiences.

Thank you.

P.S. Anyone want to buy the 951?

Scary, isn't it; bordering on blasphemy.... I really like the new BMW and Audi. And the warranty would be nice. I love the 968 and my 951. I just want something newer, more reliable, and dare I say.....practical.

You will not find a better interior than the Audi - hands down the best interiors in the business. Firm sporting ride and solid handling plus if it's a Quattro it'll drive through just abuot anything. I haven't driven a 3.0, but the 1.8T is one heck of a nice car.

Get the 330. My brother has the new A4 3.0 and it just cant compare to the Bimmer's inline 6's smoothness and sound. The Audi has better looking interior (quality about the same). As for the handling, the BMW again wins hands down in that department (based on my experience). Read the car mags also, not one put the Audi over the BMW in handling and road feel. As far as quality, my brother had the 98 A4 1.8T and it had so much electrical problems and also belt tensioner problems. I dont know much about the new Audi's reliability but I think the BMW's reliability is much better overall. Personally, I like the Audi's look better.

Why not a G35 Coupe. Beats the bimmer in acceleration and handling. Trounces the a4 in everything but it loses in interior quality. I have one and I have raced a 330 Performance Package and beat by at least four cars up to 120. That was a lot of fun. And if your idea of fun is oversteer then this car will not dissapoint you in any way. Its a great value considering what you get. I drove the A4 3.0, 1.8, drove the 330 too my mom has a 325i and I can say none of them offer the same fun as the G35. If you have any questions just go to G35driver.com and ask away. I hang out there a lot so ill chime in.

Hey Robert, I saw a G35 coupe in the from the Drift Showoff last Sunday. However, it had Skyline 350GT badges and Nissan badges all over. I know that the G35 coupe IS the Skyline in Japan, however, did this guy just took off his Infiniti badges and put Skyline on them ?

I don't really like the G35/35Z option. Besides, I think most of the Japanese cars in that category are getting cheap with the interiors and don't feel as well made overall. The one thing the Germans never exported was that solid THUMP you feel when cosing the doors.

Don't know much of the new RX-8. I like the style. Does anyone know anything about those? About the BMW, it is one of the smoothest cars I have ever driven. Interior on Audi is much nicer! If you go with either of those you lose the speed from your 951. Those audis aren't very fast. I smoked a S4. Looked like he was standing still.

I expect to lose a lot of the power I enjoy with the 951. That will be sacrificed and missed. I want the newer and warrantied BMW or Audi. I really like the 3.0 ltr I-6 of the 330 and the design of the Audi. I'll just have to drive both and decide. The BMW has the edge because I would like to autocross and take it to the track.

How many Audi quattros show up at autocrosses?

Well, in the DC area LOTS of Audi's show up at autocrosses and do very well. And if it's WET, the Quattro's will totally clean up!

IMHO, neither Audi nor BMW will have quite the same level of "reliability" as a lot of the Japanese cars, but they offer a much better overall driving experience (as you already recognize.) I believe both the Audi and BMW will have a 4 year, 50K mile warranty, so even if you have a few problems you should be well covered. And both manufacturers have turned out the occasional lemon, so you can't base a decision on the anecdotal stories of "my brother's car" or "my girlfriend's car." I've owned three Audi's and have never had a major problem on any of them. My wife's A6 has 80K miles and is running great, and my S4 has 57K miles and is also running great.

The A4 and the BMW 330 are both really good cars, so drive them both and decide which YOU like best. I'm a big believer in Quattro, but where you live snow and ice may not concern you much. But Quattro also provides an additional margin of safety just driving in the rain.
