The thing with the 330xi, is that the all wheel drive is designed more for snow than sport. The suspension is a little softer, etc. That's why they don't sell in the south very well.

The reason they dont sell in the south has nothing to do with suspension and everything to do with a total lack of SNOW :>) BTW, you can do some pretty trick stuff with the suspension on them.
Further, I have noticed lots of people mentioning mod this/mod that but I know you said you wanted the warranty, before you mod better check the warranty voids (dealers love to void warranties).

I bought my 2000 S4 last April with 60k miles for $25k. Even with the mileage that was a low price, but it proves that they can be found.
The S4 2.7 biturbo was sold from 2000 through early 2003. The 2000 is somewhat less desirable because the 2001 got upgraded turbo plumbing and ESP (electronic stablility program), both of which are worth having. My wife's 2001 A4 Avant has ESP and it works quite well, but my 2000 S4 is just fine with me the way it is. My local dealership had one recently (certified) w/~50k miles for $26k or so - but it didn't last long at that price.

Check on parts prices for the audi compared to teh bimmer. My dad has a '91 200 quattro turbo and the parts are gosh-aweful expensive. It is a rare Audi, but the whole brake system needs done about every 2 years and it's a huge money drain. Given, there are only 200 of them imported that year, and you have to sort of expect that - therefore I'm not sure about the average Audi costs now. The bimmer will have decently low costing parts and hold a resale value much better...

I know I dare not mention it, but if you are looking for power in the 280-300hp range and AWD and 4 doors, I would at least look at an Evolution and STi and rule them out after a spirited drive at your neighorhood dealer. They would be brand new or close to it for the prices discussed andbe under warranty and fairly inexpensive to maintain. Just keep in mind at the prices they sell for, you are buying mostly whats under the hood and the AWD tranny, so you dont get any Audi atmospheres or Bimmer trip computers. I think they may have butt warmers though.

UD Pride,
I have looked at the WRX (not STi) and wasn't that impressed with the interior or build quaility. I'd rather spend a little more for quality and lose a little power in the process.

ANOTHER good one is the new VW 3.2- can't remember the name of the damn car- you know what I'm talking about- 3.2L VR6, has AWD, ~250HP, BIG brakes, 18" wheels, etc... They're supposed to be putting the same engine in some of the Audis...
