Question Need assistance buying a waterpump for 1984 944

So the Head is finally back together (took a while, but yey)... Now, I can hear friction noise in couple of belt and tension rollers - so I'm going to put in new ones. The shop also suspects that the waterpump is bad, and should probably put a new one in while assembling the final parts.

I've purchased stuff on pelican parts before, and so far no issues. But the waterpump is expensive, so I was hoping to get some guidance from you guys because there are several options available to me...

1. Is it ok to consider a rebuilt option? I know it's not new, but the brand is "Original Porsche" - is that a positive thing?

2. Then there's the "Late Type Kit"... The way I understand, is it has some parts that are modified for the better (or solving some issue with original design). Do I get one of these?

3. Not sure if it's ok to ask this, but, is there a cheaper place to buy a waterpump that is deemed reliable?

4. This is the parts list, I'm about to order: please review, if willing, and let me know if all is correct?

Zims!! After market pump, save some money, get the late style update kit and new hardware kit. The pumps should be replaced at least every 90k as a preventative measure, many do at 60k or even 30k. If the pump goes the timing belt can go and the engine can go!

The link you posted is just a link to the cart page on Pelican, so it doesn't actually show us the stuff you picked, just whatever we might have in a cart from Pelican ourselves- might want to take a screenshot or copy/paste the contents if you want us to check over your list.

I went ahead with one of the giant kits from Pelican when I did the belt/rollers/waterpump/etc. on my 84 back in January, but the pricing from Zims is WAY better, and I wish I'd looked harder at the time.

Here's where you can find the stuff from Zims: http://www.allzim.com/store/924-944-...tem/water-pump

If your car doesn't have the guide rail (http://www.allzim.com/store/timing-b...ater-pump.html), it hasn't been updated to use the newer-style water pump. Definitely do the update- that rail can keep a loose or stretching timing belt from grabbing onto itself (look at the routing of the belt, and keep in mind that it's toothed on both sides, and you'll understand why they changed it!) and demolishing your engine. There's a reason Porsche stopped making the older style ages ago.

Zims carries URO brand water pumps - just something to keep in mind. They don't have a stellar reputation for quality but their water pumps seem to be fine. I was told there was another company (maybe Zims themselves?) holding their hand so they would actually be better quality. I have a brand new URO pump from Zims and it checks out so far. The bearing definitely takes a little force to spin, but is smooth and doesn't grind.

I put a Uro on someone else's car last year. I was surprised at how good it appeared to be. After that, and reading more online, I decided to put one in my car. I'm approaching 1,000 trouble free miles on the new wp (in less than a month's time.)

Holy crap... That would have saved me $300-400 on parts. I've bought a bunch of stuff for previous BMWs from ECS, and they're a solid business I'd happily work with again, so that's good to know for next time around!

That's about a $200 markup versus buying from Zims.

This was my invoice from Zims for belts/rollers/WP. Plus an extra timing belt, to throw onto my '83 DD soon.

The belt/roller set is for the new engine. The lone timing belt is for my current engine (rollers are somewhere in the garage) because it's been 3 years, and it takes like 10 minutes to install with no balance stuff in the way and no timing covers.
