944Online offers a block sleeving service for ~$1k out the door.
Other shops will do it even less...

And at that point, you can use off-the-shelf Chevrolet or other brand pistons for $200/set of 8.

I've seen multiple solicitations for new Wossner pistons on E-Bay for $650-700/set (which is what I paid for mine), and if you wanted to stick with Alusil bores that won't cost you much at all. You'd just have to pay for shipping to Lindsay or someone else. I went with Nikasil at a cost of $1700 through 928 Motorsport/U.S.Chrome. I paid about $250 total for shipping, coming from California.

What scares me about that is that there are more sets of 3 available than sets of 4

Or you could spend $50-200 for a block, depending on how good of a deal you can find, and then $150 on stock pistons. It's already $2k after that just to finish the rebuild...

You are stating: "I REALLY like my 944."

Then enjoy it, because you are NOT going to be owning a 944 after an LS swap, as it will be a Corvette or Camaro wearing different body work.

ALL the nuances of 944 ownership and enjoyment become something else. It becomes a tradeoff.
This discussion has been had SO many times with SO many people and the folks that do it have spent FAR more than the 3 grand you would spend on a build up of a stock 944 engine.

Talk with Lindsey, talk with A.Broadfoot @ Broadfoot Racing and see what it costs to build up a GOOD and powerful N/A engine. Live with the fact it will then become a track monster, and life of the engine compared to a factory built street engine becomes another thing to consider. Use on the street will be like living with a semi-psychotic nymphomaniac who has become your only desire, and care and keeping will be ALL encompassing.

You may have to take her to a few sessions of "therapy to set things in order".....and these may involve time and more money.

The 944 you once owned WILL be a compromise. It WILL be a lot of fun to own.
Sometimes.

( and I wouldn't run either block the way it is showing. Take them to a professional used to dealing with 944 blocks and go from there. These look like they would create some issues ).

This thread is on the wrong forum we have a specialized Turbo forum, the mentioned block was sold by me and the buyer and many of the guys posting on this thread are not experienced with 951's, out of the 150 that I have parted as many of you know most were running . Anyway out each 25 951 blocks maybe one could be found in perfect condition without a single scratch, that is rare, but when they have been modded most will have scratches, the most perfect blocks that I found were from 944na's.
The first block was fine it has a few scratches they do grab the nail buy aren't that deep.
Block was sold for near 1199.99 minus 400.00 shipping that's 800.00 bucks for a turbo short block if you take the 10% eBay takes my net is $ 680.00. that ain't a lot of money, I only list parts that in my experience will run fine..

My 1st lartmobile back in 2001 we rebuilt the engine which I had purchased from Black forest in FL(that guy ripped me off), I had to rebuilt that motor it had a few scratches but after the built it ran perfect with 21psi of boost for 4 years until i got rear ended, I parted the car sold the block to Special Tool and he pulled the famous 602rwhp 10 years ago with the same scored block LOL, it was the same for my 2nd, 2rd 4th and 5th lartmobile they all ran high boost, the bores had minor scratches no big deal, as long as the wear on the chamber is not excessive and the chamber still round, a few scratches wont hurt. I learned that from Klaus Groth the guy that gave hell to the Vision Motorsport Orca 3L race car with his 2.5L turbo, he built all his engines and they lasted many racing seasons, he actually used scotch bright to clean up the cylinder walls. This isn't bs is all documented here with videos, sheets, pictures.
By the way I tuned all my cars, I have never had a blown head gasket once I mastered the tuning.

Here are some of the dyno's and runs from my former cars

Just remember..If you go with the LS motor swap, you'll have to upgrade the brakes as well...Don't forget..the engine is just ONE component. The other components will have to be upgraded as well to keep the "Karma" in balance..LOL!
