Vented badge panel for NA front end (non-931)
Starting my search. I like the 931 nose panel, but I haven't seen one for sale in my price range in a long time. Are there any options out there, without converting to a 951 nose? FG replicas and stuff like that. I'm a little worried about stuffing a 951 intercooler behind an NA nose panel.

It may not be the way you want to go, but you might consider just adding vents to the NA nose. A turbo I had about 10 years ago had a nose panel the PO vented by just cutting an appropriately-shaped hole out, adding a nice-looking mesh behind it (to keep out debris), and then painting the whole thing.
It's the kind of thing that can look really good or like utter crap, depending on the execution...
BTW, it's funny, I just yesterday figured out why the shot of your engine bay in your avatar always looked weird to me... the wasted-spark ignition wiring, the lack of a stock distributor, and the missing Motronic setup finally clicked. I know, it should be obvious, but some of us just can't be helped...

Ha! no worries you should have seen how long it took the guys who did the state inspection. That's when the dizzy was physically there, but the coils were connected with really long zip tied wires from a mid 90s 1500 truck, and there was a ghetto cone filter hose clamped over the end of the J-boot. IAT zip tied to the hood latch and MAP sensor zip tied to throttle body, to top things off.
Back on track though... yeah that's my backup plan. Can anyone comment on using a late vs and early badge panel? I'm aware of the spot welds, but I'm interested in making it into a removable part for future access. Wondering if one is better suited than the other, or if the setup will need the same modification either way.

You have to swiss-cheese the **** out of the early panel to get it off.
I think I had to drill out 40+ spot welds.
I just cut off the cheesed part (the bottom lip, just above the metal bumper) since it wasn't doing anything anyways.

Yeah I was going to do the same thing... it looks like at least 20+ down there. Spencer, I know we discussed this in a PM - but can anyone comment on the sheet metal below that panel that would need to be removed to fit a 951 IC? I can see that it looks thin and non-structural but I don't want to do anything that compromises the car or the cooling (well...the IC won't help the cooling). I know it's not really a standard operation, but I figure at least someone has tried it or considered it.

I chopped out the whole "sheetmetal crossmember" between the bumper shocks and made a "crossbar" thing to bolt across the gap, using the bumper shock holes.
Worked as a great place to hang an oil cooler
The V8 guys used to do this a lot too, to fit larger radiators.

That sounds like a viable solution.
My "left field" plan would be to stick a water to air heat exchanger there. and rear-mount the radiator for it, where there's plenty of space.

I dunno... I saw one of those 951 panels worked onto a 944 and it was pretty obvious. It has a much bigger curve to it which was very noticeable by the way it no longer "paralleled" the front bumper.

Dunno what the quality is like, but the price isn't too bad for a fiberglass piece: EBay header panel
