Default Anyone pull this bonehead move???

I forgot to pull the pump nozzle out of my car before trying to drive away.
There seemed to be some sort of breakaway piece on the pump because the hose separated pretty cleanly without pouring gasoline all over the place. But not before it severely bent the filler tube on my car. I can't get the gas cap back on because the threaded portion is all messed up.
Has anyone done this sort of thing with their car? (and willing to admit it publicly) Do you know what I need to replace? Is it just the outer threaded portion or will I have to pull the whole gas tank?

I never did anything like that. You'll need the filler tube neck.

944-201-039-03 is the part# for the 86 944

You should have said one of those damn Amish horses kicked your filler tube in and I wouldn't have had a hard time believing it. Damn Amish horses....

All I gotta say is I respect the chutzpah it takes to post an admission like that here. With that extra respect I'd say you almost break even.

That's not so bad Blackbird. Years ago when our work vehicles used propane a co-worker, and I used the term loosely, drove away from the propane pump THREE separate times with the hose attached. Ripped her off each time. Propane everywhere until the emergency button was hit.

He was (is) an idiot.

Your oversight isn't that bad. Reminds me of a thread about a year back when everybody posted all the bonehead things they had done involving a car. That was funny!

I did that before without damaging my car. I pulled the hose out of the pump and told the attendant about it. He said don't worry about it. I have another filler tube and if you are in L. A., come and get it for free.

I used to work for a gas pump repair company. I've seen this many times. People would do it with me standing there! The hoses do have break-away valves on them now. Years ago people would pull the pump off the island!
