Default Any oil filter considerations?

Do you guys recommend any oil filter over another? If so, include why. Also- what about a quality radiator replacement? Thanks.

Mahle would be my first choice. The import place here is sometimes out and they sub "Mann" brand, I've used them both, and the both seem fine and they both have the check valve. Which is the most important feature. You don't want to have to "fill" the filter when the car first starts before the oil circulates to the rest of the motor.

good call kevin,

mann is an acceptable swap for the mahle. i think my mechanic actually used mann more than mahle.

I think the Mahle is what I will go with. Paragon has them for $4, so no problme there. Thanks for the advice all.

I've used K&N filters (with the check valves) and have not had any problems. I should also try the Mahle to provide a means of comparison....

Here is a link to Oil Filters.

I personally use the Mahle and do not see a reason to use anything else. The oil filter is one of those parts where there is no reason to comprimise on quality or function. No matter who made the car.

Here is a link to a new radiator

That is a factory OEM radiator

i am using a MANN filter... works great... just a reminder though, don't go with K&N oil filters... nothing special about them but the name and they are twice as expensive as anything else...

I remember about 10 years ago having a problem with a particular brand of oil filter that leaked. The gasket on the filter somehow was cut during installation. It was somewhat of a widespread problem, even causing engine compartment fires. Anybody remember which brand that was?

Default Good topic

Thanks for the reminder.I get routine maintenance by local ,competent(but not Porsche)shop. The first couple of oil changes, he was blown away at the expense of the oil filter. The last time though,I guess he thought he would save me some dough and copped a Fram unit on it.I actually didn't think about it until I fired it up(after a hard run) and I didn't get any oil pressure. My initial thought was the pressure gauge gone bad but with oil warning light on I immediately shut it down.I let it sit for a while and hit it again and after a slight delay the pressure shot up(as if it had lost prime).Haven't had the problem since but I'm changeing it out tomorrow anyway(Mahle).

I've varied between Fram, K&N, Mobil1 and Purolator and never had a dry start problem with any of them. The only filter I had trouble with was that stupid Canton Mecca filter POS I used for a year or two.

Actually, I think there are only like 4 companies that make all of the filters on the market out there anyway. There's a link out there to a database about them all. Skip usually pops in right about now to post it.

Skip?
