Fram uses less folds on their filter, less surface area, less flow. Wix, Dana, Mahle and Mann are all about the same.

dmitry beat me to it.

next time you are at the local parts store, take two different brands of the same exact filter and hold one in each hand. you can actually feel the differences between a fram and purolator/motorcraft/etc. the fram is much lighter due to a smaller amount of the filtering material.

probably fine for a daily beater, but i wouldn't use it in much else.

I won't use a fram on my lawnmower, let alone any car.
