Default WTB new engine, preferrable built

Does anyone know who I could contact (preferrable around the Detoit area) who could completely rebuild my motor or sell me a new one already built? Mine currently has over 100,000 miles and has a bit of blow-by and probably needs new rings. I'm thinking, if i'm going to pay a mechanic the money to rip the engine apart to give it new rings, I might as well have the whole thing rebuilt, bored out, etc etc to add some ponies to it. btw, it's an '84 944 n/a. If anyone knows a good place for me to go, please let me know, as i'm new to the Porsche game. Thanks.

A set of oversize pistons is expensive! The few extra cc's wil not make a big difference in HP (as in <1 HP). A 100,000 mile block is unlikely to need to be bored anyway, just plan to do rings, bearing, and reseal it unless you find somethin inside. I had the same problem last winter, had I just planned to have it done as outlined above, it would have taken a week or two and cost <$3000. Instead, I planned for the worst and orderewd a new shortblock. 5 months and $9000 later I have an engine with upgrades that I didn't want and runs poorly but may put out a little more hp at low rpm and less power above 5000 rpm.

Dave, point taken, and advice appreciated. Wow, that's a lot of money. My car seems to run good now, and I've put quite a few dollars into it already having the body and paint fixed. Do you have a round about idea, having gone through it already, what I could expect to pay to have it rebuilt to factory specs then? Just new piston rings, maybe a valve job, that sort of thing?

There are good places in Toronto that could do the job, and you'd get a big advantage on the exchange rate and probably no GST tax. Buy a cheap return air ticket from Toronto to drop it off and pick it up.

I'm in Warren, just outside Detoit on the northeast side. I work at Selfridge Air Base and am only an hour or less from Port Huron.

Peckster, my g/f lives in windsor, ON, and her sister in Toronto, so if you know a number to a good place there, let me know and I'll check it out.

Thanks, guys.

My cousin and I use Jack at G-tek, he really knows these cars and is less expensive than the dealers. He used to be lead mechanic at the big dealer in town but has his own place now. 416-755-7884.

Marky, thanks a lot for the name and number. I probably won't be looking to do this until early spring, but i'll definitely keep it on file for then.
