You are still missing the point. Even if the Porsche unit sounded like total ***, people would still prefer it over your Pioneer because it looks better in the car.
Nothing against your Pioneer, but it screams "aftermarket" which is what people are trying to avoid by buying the Porsche classic unit.

Yup. I put a pretty inexpensive Pioneer unit in my 84 based solely on features at the price point because I'd given up on finding something reasonable that looked correct. I just went for 'not too offensive'. Now that I know that that Conti unit is an option, I'll be seriously considering picking one up later on. That's dead-on what I want in a head unit- simple, solid construction, bluetooth, and no flashy crap or flimsy buttons.
I have a modern Blaupunkt head unit in one of my cars. I love the features, functions, and specs, but hate the aftermarket look.
That Conti looks pretty damn good.

Wonder how much the map upgrade discs will cost?

Definitely a good point- in my case, I'm hoping to get enough bass out of some larger rear speakers to avoid having to go the subwoofer route, but if that's not going to cut it, I might be back to the drawing board for the head unit.

You will never be able to get enough bass with the built-in amplifier in a head unit. They simply don't have enough power to move the air necessary for good bass response, no matter how big the speaker or its ohm rating. The easiest path toward good balanced sound is a head unit with the highest amp-rated (NOT WATTS) speaker outputs + a line out to run an active subwoofer. Very affordable, easy to install, fewest splices, power draws, etc. The sound will rival a setup with dedicated amp for a fraction of the cost and installation effort. Without the line out option, this arrangement is simply not possible.

If you wanted to amp up some 6.5" speakers in the rear speaker spot, you could grab one of these and bridge it. I used one in my Saab to deal with the front sound stage and it worked quite well for being so cheap and its small enough to stash in the car with very little hassle. The noise floor is not horrid and even driving a nice set of focals i had sitting around, it does well, they bump for being 6.5's. The amp needs minimal power (15a fuse) so its also easy to get wired in via an 8 gauge wire run from the battery. It will take high level (aka speaker output) from a head unit or Low level (rca's), so you can use it with anything you want. You could also just run all 4 speakers off it for more output. It does 45w x 4 RMS or 90w x2 bridged. This would actually work even if you have the original stereo in the car.

I agree much better options on the after market.
The Pioneer 80PRS is a very good deck. I wish Pioneer still made the 800PRS though, as I always thought the looks were very classy.

No grampa here. More of an audiophile who doesn't buy into the Dr Dre hip-hop hype. The Beats brand is nothing but marketing hype that don't stand up to comparison against true audiophile-quality gear. Do some homework on the specs and you'll see what I mean.
