Default WTB: Fuel Quantity Gauge

Needed immediately, Fuel Quantity gauge for '86 and earlier 944 Turbo. Need to diagnose problem with quantity readings. I show 1/2 tank when there's only 5 gallons in the tank. Moving the needle only eliminates the ability for the gauge to sweep to full tank. Sender "appears" functional but need to eliminate one or the other. IM me if you have one.

Thanks.

Good write up on Clarks Garage on how to test the sender. As I recall, that is the most common offender.

Dear 777: I took mine apart, and cleaned the grunge out of the bottom of it. Whatever you do, don't eff up the very fine wire that makes everything work inside. (Think booby-trap detonator) Ask me how I know..or on second thought..don't..:>)) !! New ones go for about 120 on Fleabay or Pelican..

I serviced the sender and then put 5 gallons in a dry tank. The resistance numbers on Clarks garage say that 1/4 tank should be about 48 ohms. Since the tank holds around 21 gallons and I put in 5, my resistance is 47.2 ohms. That's perfect as far as I can tell. I also have checked the continuity at the connectors at the back of the gauge cluster and I read 47.2 ohms. there, too. I cleaned the grounds and the pins on the sender and it's connector and I still get 1/2 tank when it should read 1/4. I tried physically moving the dial and That's not the answer as it prevents the gauge from reaching full tank swing on the needle. I'm leaning towards a replacement gauge.

It's always something.

Default Fixed!

The gauge itself was the issue. Purchased a replacement gauge unit from forum member and now I'm back in business.
