The 3-piece wide door molding kit is the same as used on gen 2 944/951, so you can source the pieces from any of those cars. I normally don't care for the rub strips / door molding pieces, but on the 924S SE, it was the ONLY narrow body 924 that came with the 944-style wider door moldings, so it sort of defines the SE (non-SE's didn't get the wide trim, but rather, the original 924 narrow trim that extended beyond the front and rear wheel wells).

88 SE with wide 944.2-style bump strips:

88 non-SE with narrow rub strips removed (by previous owner):

87 non-SE with narrow rub strips intact:

I drove my new to me 924SE home from Myrtle Beach yesterday. 844 miles without any problem except getting out of the car when I got home. Time for new decent tires though. Current tires are 7 years old and rears are mismatched. Did the SE model come with 205/60/15 tires on all 4?

Congratulations on your new buy Zoomie !

Glad you got it.

This has been a really interesting and informative dialogue on these cars, and I must say I believe Ideola has some very fine, VERY correct information regarding these cars, and may be much more accurate than what I truly believed to be accurate and true. I defer to his wealth of knowledge regarding the style and fitment of the mirror I believed was a stock Scirroco mirror. It may have had the styling, but is a slightly different piece on the base.

Thank YOU for clarifying as well as Butters questioning this fact as represented by me. It led to a further delving into things and brought to light accuracy in facts. This is what good discussion forums do.

Enlighten.

I sure would love to add a pristine example of one of these to my small group. Would make a nice partnering to the '88 Jubilee 944 that already is in my garage, and the future 911 Jubilee/Celebration car of my dreams.

Default 924SE tires

The 924S owners manual that came with my car specifies 195/65/15 tires but I am wondering if different tires were on the SE cars like mine. Looking for appropriate tire that would be for non track use, PS there is one for sale outside MPLS/St Paul on craigslist.

Default special edition exhaust

Ok folks with 1988 924 Special Edition cars. When I went outside in the daylight the day after driving 14 hours from South Carolina I saw that the tail pipe had broken off the muffler. It was wedged solidly against the muffler so nothing was really loose. So I ordered a new one from Pelican. Dansk brand #944 111 083 01 M350 which the website says is correct for 88 924S 2 days ago. Today I jacked the car up and what is on the car looks like Pelican's picture for 88 944 not like the picture for the 924S Dansk. Anyone sure what is correct? Or do I just wait to see what comes in. I found 2 links I here and one on Pelican that both said that 1988 only 924S with manual trans take the same muffler as 88 944. This muffler has a resonator in front of the muffler as well as a larger diameter. Correct part# for 88 924S is 944 111 041 03

Default Porsche 924SE not so special? Think again

Did the 944 celebration edition have a pair of the plastic mirrors?

Back on topic, I'd say offer 3 or 4k and go from there, I agree with the Chris. They are a cool special edition car but that doesn't mean they're worth much more than a standard 924S in the current market.
The only reason they don't have a value, for example at The Hagerty Evaluation guide, is simply because there is not enough data on private sales, and auctions. Most didn't even know they existed until now, because Porsche never had a marketing campaign for them, just adds in magazines and at the dealer. Simply put, there were only 500 destined for the U.S. market, more than half are beleived to have ended up in junkyards accross the country or roted away in fields or people's backyards due to lack of maintanence or the financial support to keep them on the road! The Porsche Club racing community cherish these cars and respect the intent and the vision Porsche had designing this Club Sport if you will, version of not only the 924S variant, but of any 924 ever built. If the 924S has cought the eye of those at RM & Sotheby’s auction at Amelia Island 2017 and Monterey Car week's auction in California 2017 selling for $20,000 and $19,900 plus fees, premiums, and taxes, it can only mean that the time has arrived. It is 2018 now and for the last 6 years the 924S has been going up in value, so wouldn't the 924SE bring more at auction or be more desirable with its better overall performance and unique interior? Time will tell. With only 2 for sale in the entire country asking $20,000 and I think the other $16,500 and they end up selling, it definitely will bring the attention to the market. A base 924S from 88 feels and performs totally different than a 924SE. Those mint examples, without sunroof, ac, radio, rear wiper, arm rest, and even power steering delete, those are the more rare and desired by Porsche Club Sport Racers, and will be to collectors soon enough.

Hello, I bought Zoomie's car in July 2016...he was huge help in the purchase, picked me up at Ann arbor, and I drove "panter" back to southern Maryland. Man...a 924 sure is a hot car to drive without AC! I have had some minor work and parts here and there, have alot of parts on the shelf to install yet: Big front wilwoood conv brakes, fresh rotors, new konis, redone cookie cutters with new tires, fixed the banged up front valence, and dented right fender and new bumper shock tube. Last week pulled the seats and getting them done right now with the fabric Zoomie gave in the sale. Yes, the original looking grey with burgundy flannel, and the seat foam is in great shape! Will check in now and then and update y'all.
