AUDI A4/S4 DIFF IN PORSCHE 944 TURBO
Hello everyone,
As part of the search for reasonable price .LSD DIFF for my 1986 porsche 944 turbo' I came across
This gear type LSD rear differential for Audi A4 / S4(B 6-7) for 795$
https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catal...on-p-1888.html
I know that many Audi owners use Porsche 944 Turbo LSD Differential in their car,
I also know Wavetrac lsd diff (wavetrac part no # 40.309.170WK ) suited to Audi and Porsche 944 A4 / S4(B6/7)
Can I do the opposite?
That mean install that DIFF in my 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo?
According to logic, if the ifjhmotorsports LSD suitable without further adjustments TO AUDI S4/a4 and OEM Porsche and WAVETRAC LSD'S fits as well then It's
should fit my porsche 944 gearbox (code 5p) without problem
What do you think guys?
thanks in advance

I have heard that an Audi diff could work in a 944 transaxle, but never seen anyone actually do it. Sorry I can't add any useful info but this has been talked about before, so maybe someone here has knowledge.

I have installed a 944-series LSD in the rear diff for an A4/S4. Requires minor machining to "clearance" the LSD case bolt heads to the case. So I would conclude the opposite should work fine.

FWIW, the Audi product is for a separate rear differential. Not a transaxle differential.
The only instances I've heard of Audi people using Porsche diffs are B5-chassis, 01E equipped S4's. They install the LSD in their REAR differential. Not touching the transmission. The B6/7 transmission is totally different anyway.

According to Wavetrac, they have different part numbers
944 incl turbo 1986> (note)
40.309.170WK
$1,395.00
A4 (B5/B6/B7) QUATTRO REAR
18.309.180WK
$1,395.00
The Audi 016 front diff has the same P/N
Coupe, Quattro 016/093 5MT FRONT
40.309.170WK
$1,395.00
But.....According to 034 the 40.309.170WK does work in both applications
https://store.034motorsport.com/wave...udi-front.html
I'd call up Wavetrac and ask them the differences between their part numbers.
JHM's site says their diff fits only B6/B7 and not B5. If you call JHM, they might tell you if it'll fit a B5 too, or maybe why they don't list it as fitting.

"Please Note: Porsche 944 turbo and turbo S models with OEM LSD and trans oil cooler option must convert to open-diff style drive gear, part number 016.155.165A and rollpin N.100.792.01."

This is the answer I got from waverac
" For cars equipped with the factory differential oil cooler, you can install the oil cooler gear and roll pin used from the stock 944 open diff to the Wavetrac. Since you have the open diff and not the LSD diff, the oil cooler drive gear and roll pin should swap right over."
I would be very happy to have wavetrac gear type lsd,
the only problem is the price...
best price I found for WAVETRAC were 1170 $
and the JHM LSD (also gear type lsd) is much cheaper and can be find in retail price for 795
