Default IT'S ALIVE!!

With the help of a loaner DME from one of our forum members, I plugged it in and, Holy Crap, it's alive. After all the hair tearing, frustration, trouble-shooting and components replaced, it came down to a defective DME. The good thing is I found several issues on the car that needed to be attended to anyway, so now I'm confident I won't need to worry about them on road trips.

I have to bleed the brakes, reinstall a fender liner (taken off to do the fuel lines), and get it down off the jack stands. It really sounds good and the AFR shows proper ratios and it just feels like it wants to go out and have fun.

Thanks to all who contributed their help and suggestions. They really helped me with understanding the vagaries and functions of the turbo 944.

Happened to me too. I spent 16 months getting stranded on the side of the road periodically until I tried a different DME. Super frustrating, but it is nice to know you resolved a lot of potential issues along the way. Enjoy!

Thanks for your best wishes. Now I'm putting all the miscellaneous parts back in their proper place. Wife got me some new embroidered mats to replace the ugly ones that were in the car in the barn. I need to bleed the brakes, re-install the front pax fender liner, rear hatch and weather seal, a little body work, the fuel gauge, etc, etc.

Wow, congratulations. I'm sure it's both relieving and frustrating.

My prior owner had replaced the DME about four years ago. I also just popped in a 944MAX chip in May. Hopefully it will hold out for another couple of years.

Keeping fingers crossed that you've now exorcised the gremlins for a while. Happy motoring.

Thanks. I'm hopeful with all the things that I replaced, rebuilt and repaired, it should be pretty reliable and quick for a long time.

LOL.

"the prehistoric, crusty, crispy, rat chewed electrical circuit built during the Reagan era (when your mom used an Apple Lisa to write her term paper) won't weaken/fry/destroy your new/used DME (the canary) of your soon to be towed away 944."

you, just go on believing that.

Don't listen to that guy. He is a hater of Porsche but still drives one after dumping more into his Chevy engine then his car is worth without it.

Proud of you for not telling OP for go v8 but yes, in 944-land it's normal to replace a bad Motronic part with one that's just as old, and hope that keeps it running. I don't think you can even get a new DME besides the awesome Rogue one, and nobody is paying $800+ for a new AFM.
