Help - My Boxster wheels are bent
I got these wheels from ebay and i think I got ripped off. I mounted these rims and got a violent left to right vibration on the steering wheel. I thought it was a simple wheel balance issue until the the guy in the wheel place mounted the front wheels on the machine. He showed me clearly as he spinned the wheels and an obvious wobble at one point in the rim. The wobble was up and down and not left to right as I would expect. That rim does not show any obvious cracks but it seems like it is bent. I have heard of places who can possibly fix these wheels. Can anyone recommend a place? And how much am I going to be charged to fix this? Also, how can I check the remaining wheels for "straightness" to make sure they are not bent? I got the set of wheels for $440, but it does not look like such a bargain now. I just trusted the seller that the rims are ok. Another ebay rip off I guess.

Yes, however the two front tires looked like they were still 60% good (Continentals). As I mounted the tires, severe vibration happened. Found out from the tire shop that the front tires were "feathered" (?). Basically, if you run your hands flat on the flat surface of the tires, your hands would go up and down. The seller did mention that the previous Boxster owner did some racing.. Would that make the tires be feathered? So I got new Good Years on the front tires and I thought the vibration would go away. Nope, ended up that one of the front rims is bent. The mechanic checked the other front rims for trueness and he said it was ok. However, I havent checked the two rear one for trueness yet..This is frustrating. The car is not even driveable since the vibration is too much.

I bent (flat section from hitting a HUGE pot hole) two of my 993 cup rims. It cost me $400 each to have them fixed here in the SF Bay Area. This is one of the negatives for taller rims with short sidewall tires. The short sidewall will not absorb an impact as well as tires with taller sidewalls.

The only agreements on ebay are the ones that are stated in the specific auction. If the auction said they were sold "as-is" then that's the case. If not, they are supposed to be in the condition stated on the auction page, so if the auction said that they were straight and true, and it turns out that they are not, you can go after him. Can you post a link to the auction so we can have a look at it?

I had a phone dial straightened by a place...$90. I think it was in Chicago. I gave all my receipts for the '88 to the buyer...so I can't check those.
Depends on the damage, too. Mine was bent slightly right to left.
Send it out for an estimate.
I got it!!

Also, when I got the wheels there were no center caps. I asked him about it and he said that the center caps were on a seperate auction. From his descripton however, its kind of vague.

Umm...no details?
The picture has a centercap, and he doesn't say he won't ship them, so he misrepresented the auction.
Here are mine:

He said one was scuffed, but three were, so if I don't hear from him tomorrow, I'm emailing ebay Fraud.

Well he says "I also have a brand new set of center caps (check my other auctions)". To me it sounds like he just bought a brand new set of center caps that are included in the auction (they're in the picture aren't they?). I would think if you put them in the picture, and don't specifically say "not included in auction", then they should be included.
It would be hard to get anything out of him, but I would back ya up on being owed the center caps.
As for the rims being bent....he didn't mention that, and I think it is something worth mentioning. Might be SOL if you didn't ask about it though (beforehand).

Since he mentions the center caps right after the "what's included" section, I could understand reading it that way. I would have read it as separate auctions. But the fact that it's in the picture gives weight to your claim.
It's definitely ambiguous. See what the ebay officials say.
Either way he says one scratch, which implies the others are perfect, so if it's bent, you have a valid claim.

This will sound like a joke but it's true...
When I had my S2 I left the road at the track and hit the barrier very slightly. The wheel got a hit and a twist/bend. I was lumping home. I went to the tyre specialist and this is what he did. He took a rubber hammer spun the wheel hit it couple of times and straightened it. Car was great again. So I don't think it's as big of a deal as some garages make it up to be. If it's not to bad all you need to do is to find a guy like this...
