New Sunroof seal, now sunroof won't seat properly
Anyone have any ideas? I replaced the sunroof seal on my car and the sunroof won't sit flush now. Sticks out about a quarter inch or so. Is there a special way that the seal needs to go on or...?

That's normal. I had the same problem, but now mine seats fine. What I did was place the roof back on the car, pushing it down as far as possible by hand, before engaging the arms. Then, I carefully engaged the locking arms, so that they locked the roof, but didn't raise it at all.
Leave the roof that way for a few days. Then, you can start using the motor to open and close it. Otherwise, you can strip a gear if the roof doesn't seat low enough.
That worked for me.

There are side to side tensioners on most of the sunroofs. Kind of like the wood garage door tensioners. One side or the other should have holes to reach the nuts. Uses an allen wrench -- socket heads.
This will squeeze the sun roof a side to side. Might help.

Everyone I've heard of that's done this has had the same problem. Most said that they helped the roof go down with thier hands before they used the motor and set the car in the sun for a few days.
Mine still sticks up but then again it's covered and in a cool garage most of the time.

I got my 109 pound girlfriend to sit on the sunroof (mine is an '83, so it's a manual roof). She had just gotten out of the shower, and was naked.
It did eventually fit, and I have not opened it since (my A/C works).
I wish I had taken a picture of this, move over this way honey.... now a little more to the right.....
We still both laugh about what would have happened if someone would have walked in.
Funny, it seemed like a bigger problem before she walked in the garage.

aligned and but I can push roof down into fully sealed position with arms retracted....hummmm.
Is the 109 lb. force critical to making the s/r seal seat correctly?
Wow.... I thought finding a belt tensioning tool was tough, NOW I gotta find a 109lb girlfriend. Sheeesh! Will try adjusting side tensioners if I can't find a willing assistant.
Well, if the factory recommends it, ya just can't argue.
Anyone out there know why one side would ride higher though??

Yes Kevin - I forgot about those.
Also, I heard that the "totally nude" option is still the best selling, as the nude skin also acts as a mild rubbing compound for the sunroof paint.

The really bad part about all of this is the maintenance costs of this p-car tool. It approaches the cost of maintaining both of my p-cars.

It's not so much the maitenance but the cost of recalibration. I too had a 109lb version many years ago, put it away on the workbench and came back a couple of months later and low and behold....I had a 159lb tool!
Had to pitch it out and get another dag gone tool...but I think I know where you're coming from! lol
Just kiddin'. But..... has anyone had any luck using the side tension screws to "****" the roof back into seating correctly. Will explore other options until I am conviced the method to this madness works.

i think that if one side is higher then the gears need to be readjusted to make them evenly timed. Also,if it is not pulling down tight, the clutch is prob.. just a hair too loose to pull it down and is slipping
