I'm excited!

If my engine ever goes south beyond saving, I'd like to go your route!

And a 6 speed 44 is just cool...

Hey we were all set to start her yesterday and noticed no fuel pressure. We found the fuel pump portion of the DME relay wasn't closing. So I closed the contacts and got that fateful bad fuel pump thump.

My question is this though: would this have kept the starter solenoid from engaging? When we turned the key to the start position nothing happens. Everything else is working except of course the fuel pump. All fuses are good, everything is plugged in.

Any ideas?

Found the issue with non-cranking. Apparently we got the wires in the solenoid/alternator harness turned around :/ So that problem is solved. Now all I need is a fuel pump and a DME relay!

Brake lines done right! 18 inches for the front and 30 inches for the rear. No more rear trailing arm brake hard lines! These are the best.

I am going to have them make me a set of flexible fuel injection lines for my 928. The old Audi's used flex lines but unfortunately they don't use an M10 banjo

Here's my mascot. Meet Gibson (Gibbs) a 4 month old PON aka Polish Lowland Sheepdog. My second one, we lost the first model (Raggz) to diabetes at age 13. Raggz hated to ride. Gibbs on the other hand loves it! I just love him

I had a Brakequip distributor custom build them for me. I am thinking about having several sets made if there is enough interest.

SOS, HELP, ASSISTANCE.

Still no fuel pump and no spark when I turn the key. I have the cover off the DME relay and the DME power portion engages but the fuel pump portion does not. Cranking the engine does not close the fuel pump relay nor do I get any spark. I regapped the speed sensor and no change. I went through the entire Clark's Garage troubleshooting steps up to putting a scope on the DME which I didn't have with me at the time. Either the wiring diagram Hollyoak put together is wrong or my DME is bad. I received instructions from another source which are in direct contradiction with Hollyoak's so I am really stuck. I have been through the wiring diagrams of both the 944 and 968 and I can't see any issue with Hollyoak's diagram. However not knowing how the DME works and what the signaling is on each pin, like 35 & 36, it is hard to go further and I am not risking blowing a $400 DME in the process.

Please help if you can because I am genuinely stumped. One thing that would be super helpful is off someone can tell me; 1) if the fuel pump will run momentarily when the key is first turned on 2) will the fuel pump run without the engine harness plugged in at the firewall and 3) will the fuel pump run without the DME plugged in?

Thanks,

Fronkenstein

1) nope, DME only activates fuel pump portion of DME relay when it sees RPM.
2) nope, check out this diagram and you'll see why.
3) nope, because the DME itself controls the fuel pump portion of the DME relay (see #1).

Here's a diagram of the relay. To activate the fuel pump, the battery supplies a full-time 12v to pin 30. The DME provides a ground (not +12v) to pin 85b. You can also see that the other stage of the relay (which powers the DME/injectors) also has to be activated for that circuit to complete. But if your DME has power, you know that isn't the problem.

Combined with not getting spark, my money is on the DME not getting an RPM signal. That could be a bad sensor, but from what I've read and personally experienced, the wiring is usually the culprit. Make sure everything is plugged in and there are no disintegrating connectors.

Thanks O'Donnell that is what I needed to know. In looking at the schematics I was expecting the DME to pull to ground. BTW how did you know that, current flow diagram?

I replaced the sensor for the very reason you stated - disintegrated connector. Fortunately the speed and reference sensors from 944, 951, 968 and I assume others are all the same part #. So I replaced it and regapped it 0.80mm.

Since this is a conversion from 944 to 968 there are a couple of 944 chassis connectors under the dash that no longer have a home and then there is the 14 pin connector that is part of the DME cable under the dash, also with no home which I am going to guess is for the immobilizer. Here are some pictures:

Any other comments?

Thanks
