Default Hood Release Cable Replacement

My hood release cable snapped, at the handle end fortunately.

Bought a replacement.
Only $17 at Amazon!. They also sell the same thing for $25, go figure.

Is it possible to just pull the old cable out of the sheath and push the new cable thru? That would make it a very easy fix. I don't know why they don't sell the cable alone.

Just fix it right, why do a "Bubba" repair?

A "Bubba" repair? Is that like "******-rigged"?

One of those quaint Southern expressions?

I suppose it is more polite to describe something as "Bubba-rigged" but it doesn't quite roll off the tongue in the same way.

You can fix it the Rube Goldberg way if you like too.

Install hood pins, it's easier.

Default Hood Release Cable Replaced!

The Porsche Workshop manual says to just slide the cable in.

So I bravely pulled the old cable out. It was sticky with dried grease. I was able to push the new cable thru despite the sticky grease inside the jacket.

I had already removed the rivets holding the hood latch on and replaced them with 10-32 machine screws. Removing the hood latch makes it much easier to thread the cable.

After you get the cable free, you could use multiple wraps of tape around the two cables and pull both through the firewall..just a thought..
