I don't remember the exact number but I weighed 2 hoods once and they were something like 42 lbs each.

The rear hatch, complete with hinges, rubber spoiler and trim is 52 lbs, FYI too.

The crankshaft is 55-60 lbs depending on year and just production variation... There is a knife edged lightened 2.5 crank on my local (san diego) Craig's list for $400 if you're interested.

The complete torque tube with bearings and driveshaft installed is 60 lbs...

I'm just giving you ideas of heavy things that need lightening lol

What about swapping to a manual rack? There was someone recently selling a complete setup for a late offset car. I'm not sure about the weight savings but probably on par with a lighter hood and probably cheaper.

$799 to save roughly 23 lbs. That's nearly $35/lb.

Jenny Craig would be proud.

Thanks for the contributions brothers, but can we keep this thread specific to lightweight hoods please? Cheers.

Are you looking for a hood with bottom, like a stock hood or just a glass one to pin down?
Here is a skin, pinned down, and it is very light.

Now, we were trying to figure out a flat spot, but you can see how a hood skin reacts at speed.

A 17 lb fibreglass hood? Lighter than carbon fibre? ...something seems off doesn't it? racerbvd, the skin's weight seems very appealing, but for a daily I'd prefer the firewall sealing capabilities to keep the fumes out of the cab. Thanks for posting guys! Cyril, thanks for the link, I'll be checking out how you installed your hood.

The hood is a copy of the original one with the same mounts.
Inserts are already installed and you just have to bolt your hinges. Same for the latch but I choose to go with the aerocatch hood pins.
Nice fit and finish and I weighted the hood myself.

I'll have to weigh my hoods. I had two fiberglass hoods in hand today, a GT Racing hood and a factory cup hood. I don't think either weighed near 20 lbs, but will have to check.

I did this swap earlier this year - I weighed the complete PS system and the complete manual rack setup. There is a weight savings of almost exactly 15 pounds from doing the swap.
