your best bet probably isn't to go stock but rather aftermarket. they are 4x6" in the rear, and because the rear opening is a little larger you should be able to go with any oval 4x6" speaker (a 4x6" plate would fit, but require some cutting).

yipe, are you actually gonna try to replace the stock rear side speakers?

damn, thats a hard job!

seeing as teh vinyl is UNDER the window seal, so you have to remove the small window to geth the vinyl out, then its glued on in some places, so you have to bust it off...

too much work for me,

im just gonna leave the stocks in there, and add some removeable boxes to put in those teensy rear seats, so i can easily return to stock

yeah some good new blaupunkts would be good replacements and keep the German theme...

or infinity Kappa's are real good

no you dont, just take it out from under the carpet and pull it out of the door seal a little then just bend the vinyl up using the window seal and a hinge type of thing and put the speakers in from underneith.

Unless you have really fat hands (like mine) you can probably replace the speakers without removing the quarter window to free up the side panels.
I replaced the rears in our '84 with a pair of 4 X 6 Polks. Go to www.crutchfield.com to see a pretty good selection of speakers that will work. Their specs say there is only a depth of about 1 7/8 inches but that is really for 924s. The rear flares give you huge depth to work with. With some fab work you can probably get som 6 1/2 in round speakers or possible even 9 x 6s in there.

They are 6.5" if you have the big soundpackage.
It´s no problem to replace them, but i would really recomend to remove the the small window.
