Default 968 Starter Solenoid

Any one know the part number and/or where I can buy a starter solenoid for my 968? PO buggered up one of the terminals, cross threaded, and one of the cables is loose. I discovered it when doing clutch. Car starts reasonably well but I need to fix a bad connection. I don't really want to buy the whole starter when its an easy solenoid replace,

Thanks

I recall that the 968 MT6 starter is similar to the 944 starter but with a longer snout for the DMF. The 944 starter I believe is the same as a VW Rabbit/Jetta starter but with the wiring swapped for reverse rotation. If all this is true a VW Bunny solenoid should fit and work. I dimly recall a 944 owner doing such.
And so it was:

Take a look at the Bosch 9330081039 ($80) or the Standard SS262, $20 which fits a panoply of VW/Audi from the 80's.

Cheers,
-Joel.

FWIW, you cna get a starter from Rock Auto for I think $160. I have an intermittent no start, presumably it is my solenoid, too.

Default Porsche 944 Starter Solenoid

Amazon has a rebuilt starter for $100-ish.

I bought just the solenoid from ebay. $30 shipped. Might still be available.

The standard 944 starter only fits the 968 Tiptronic, the 968 6-speed needs a long nose version to reach past the Dual Mass flywheel.

One other thing I've considered is just running an old school Ford type solenoid. They used to mount them to fenders, remotely from the starter.

Not an option... the solenoid also serves to kick the starter gear out to engage the teeth on the flywheel... Ford starters used a totally different method to do that; I think it was just intertia of the gear that would ride up a screw when the motor started spining.

Thanks for your comments.

Looks like the Bosch number on the solenoid is 0331 303 134-634

I can find numbers very close, but not quite the same. Looks identical to this:

This one works on VW, Porsche 996, Audi, etc.
