As someone recommended to me (an d they were right)... only by removing the dash can you get to the insulation on the interior side of the firewall. It was heavy enough to be worth the effort.

There is no "easy" way to do this. The oscillating tool works well for the tar. The glue works well with xylene. But it takes a lot of time. The worst part was all the &^*(ing seam sealer stuff, which took a knotted wire wheel. I got grip tape from my local skate shop. Good luck, have fun......and wear breathing protection if using chemicals.

Apparently there is a dry ice method for removing the tar mats as well that just cracks it all into pieces that you can pick up.

I found a heat gun, a sharp metal paint scraper, and a lot of patience worked just fine for tar removal. I used the orange citrus paint stripper you can get at the home depot for glue removal, which worked ok, but if you aren't stuck working in a garage there are harsher chemicals that will work faster.
