Intake manifold interchangeability?

Are the 951 intake manifolds exclusive to the model, or are they the same as the 2V 2.5L 944 models? I looked at a few older pics and they seem similar, but heck, I hate taking chances, thought I'd ask the group in case someone knew for sure...

they are different, not sure if the 951 might work in a 944 with capping things off, but i highly doubt a 944 one will work on a 951. i'm sure they're both tuned to get the greatest VE for give vacuums/pressures.

yeah the bolt pattern is the same/same heads. however i dont know if the vacuum hookups and crankcase ventings/idle stabilizer things will work out the same from model to model. interesting question though, now you've got me intrigued, i like the look of 951 manifolds, but i'll stick with my stock one, wanna trade? lol!

well, I'm considering getting something (prefer not to have the car down for all this, that's why I ask) that I can send out for extrude honing and ceramic coating, so I was hoping not to have to hit Ian's for a used turbo mani...I guess that may be the only option, unless people feel that the internal dynamics aren't hugely different and an extrude hone might equalize or better the flow characteristics...

a bigtime 944 guy at my local shop got his extrude honed a couple years ago. it was on a project turbo, and he left there(moved) since then, i never got to see the car run. looked mean though! i'd bet it helps the airflow.

Well, having read all the potential drawbacks/limitations of the stock head, I'm not real convinced that the extrude hone would be entirely helpful, but I'm figuring if I"m going to find an extra piece to have ceramic coated, might as well look at all possible options before fitting it to the car...I'm sure at some point I'll be looking at head upgrades, so might as well consider the possibility

Extrude honing is suppoedly usless for the problems the 951 intake has. The #4 runner flows too much, there's a company that cuts the intake and reflows it to correct the problem. Search the 951 forum to find the company. I have no personal experience, but have heard(via renn) that extrude honing doe not help much.

About 1 1/2 yrs ago there was quite a discussion here about that very thing. The argument for the honing was to cut down on the turbulence. The final input I got out of it was that the manifold did not have to be polished but just the casting high spots removed. It seams a matched porting to the head was more critical. All seamed to agree the weak link was the t body bore size. The debate raged basically about the 951. A good head port and polish guy,I mean one who can flow test them is the place to ask.
