Default Electric sunroof help (x post)

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...-of-works.html

Should have posted here but didn't realise it was on the turbo section

I'm having trouble with my sunroof.

Clarks garage is no help

It won't let me remove the sunroof. (ignition on accessories (first turn) )

When the key is on the "on" position the motor moves but won't lift the sunroof up. it will slightly move, but only one arm moves a bit and stops. and on the way down it will go back to where it was.

I dont have the gears in the sliders.. i have the gearbox in the middle. so only one slider sort of works, the other seems stuck.

What do i look at?

Have you checked the sunroof lift cam sliders? Seems you may have one that the cable attachment bracket has broken. If so only one side will push/ pull but slider wont move all the way. Both need to move together. If one is busted you will get some movement until it binds.
look at below image likely the cable attachment to slider lift cam is broken on one side.

It will look similar to this once the headliner vinyl is pulled back. (you might rip it or end up with a seam in the center)

The curved cover plate (Phillips flat head screws) need to be removed to access the sliders.

Paully,

When I turn the key to the 1 position and push down on the button, the arms retract so I can then lift the roof out.

When I push up, the arms go back into the roof but don't move it up.

Spent hours on mine over the past month or so, it turned out to be a bad center sunroof mount switch.

only one moves. I opended the slider the one that didn't move. and the internals don't actually move. so i think it's the transfer box in the middle.

Need to find away to remove it.

If you pull the cover off the lift mechanism on that side you can tell if the cam plate lug broke off and cable is moving but slider is not. If the cam plate is locked to the cable then check center gearbox . Yes you will be removing quite a bit of the vinyl headliner. The gears are metal and somewhat robust so may be stripped cable teeth. Normally see weak link as the side slider lug cable attachment breaks off. That plastic center gearbox housing gets brittle and can crack and the cover place lifted off so could be it let one cable rise out of its guide .
