S2 cams into 968 head?
Is there anything that needs to be done to swap s2 cams with the s2 tensioner assembly into a 968 head?
The back story is that the 968 spare head I have came with a broken cam shaft, but the rest of the head seems to be ok. I bought a complete s2 engine for a long term project and have been reading that the 968 head is much better in terms of strength.

I would think it would work, from what i remember its the original S head thats the weak one, it was kinda fixed in the s2/968 casting. Just don't try to mix cams, the 968 ones have a different tooth count so you can't mix and match. You can with S/S2 stuff though. The S exhaust cam is more aggressive than the S2 cam.
That all said, i've never done s2 cams in a 68 head it so i would set this up and check very carefully on the engine stand if everything will work.

My spare parts list is only S2 cams, S2 head, 968 head. Swapping cams around isn't really a factor, just whether S2 cam/tensioner assembly fits. Thanks for the tips Acromius. I might have to assemble it and see if everything lines up. I was hoping someone had done this experiment prior to me.

It's been a while, but I talked to Michael Mount about it and he let me know it could be done, but it's not a direct swap. I'm pretty sure it's the tensioner that isn't compatible.

Short answer is no, I don't have any useful links. I've got the article on my ipad so if you send me a PM with your email I'll forward it to you. I've done a lot of research on 16V turbo motors and there's an article from 911 & Porsche World from the late 90s where David Raines explains how they deleted the variocam while retaining the 968 camshafts. In the article he specifically states they used a 928S4 camshaft tensioner because it bolts directly to the 968 head without modification. Hope this helps.
