Has anyone here come up with or heard of how to once and for all fix the weak console box hinge from always coming apart? I know I can take it out but it works well for my cell, wallet and change. Any info is appreciated. Cheers.

Yeah, kind of once and for all (maybe 20 years). Just go to either pelican parts or paragon and they sell a replacement insert for the inside. It's pretty cheap, easy and only takes 15 minutes to replace. Good luck

It's not OEM but I have seen this trick used over the years. A small piano hinge, they come in black as well if you search around. The screws are small enough that they only penetrate the old trim plastic.

agree with the piano hinge - that will outlast the car - the replacement plastic ones don't last very long - I went through several before I went to the piano hinge - if you are careful, you can affix it to the plastic first and then remount the plastic - that is a lot stronger.

Trying the Paragon solution first but will no doubt be doing the piano hinge at some point. Thanks.

The OE part is just weak. The replacements are inexpensive though so that offsets the problem. I was going to fabricate a replacement from billet aluminum but the $1000 cost seems to make the problem rather insignificant.
