Question PO Botch Job (PIC)

The pic is with the glovebox removed. If you are looking at the glovebox hole, it is on the left wall... What does this actuator control? Why would the PO have spliced the switch in line with the original wiring? What is the actuator originally controlled by? The switch is connected to the actuator (yellow arrow). You can see the two black wires go in between the black vac hoses. When I switch the switch so it connects the circuit, it doesn't do anything untill the ignition is on... Then it sounds like a relay clicking (guess that is the sound of the valve)..
Any ideas?

Thanks

my guess is that that wire was connected to something that drained the battery the wouldn't shut off (glovebox light, short, ..some other load) and he put a switch in to stop it ..
again, just a guess ..

Actually.. the switch is connected to the actuator (yellow arrow). You can see the two black wires go in between the black vac hoses... Sorry I didn't mention that.

How come almost all previous owners are morons? The previous owner of my 924 installed the wrong tie rods, and cost me an extra 80 bucks.

It is not original, it says JAPAN on it . It could be part of an alarm system.

I was also wondering why they said JAPAN on them... The appear to be original parts... I KNOW they are part of the heating/AC system- just wanted to know exactly what this one controls and is controled by...

Anyone else?? I wanna put my car back together

Isn't this the heater/hot air mixer valve with the infamous clip that fails allowing hot air to blow continuously out the A/C ducts? A switch could keep the valve from activating unless you want it to.

When you're talking about 924s, it's pretty expensive. Oh well, that car is gone now.

looks to me like it may be some sort of boost controller switch like off an electronic boost controller notice the vac lines attached to it . po probally had an electronic boost controller installed in his car and when he sold it, that is if you dont have one, he probally though the only thing he needed was the controller itself. just a guess

I just replaced the clip - that is on the driver's side. And the flapper that allows the hot air in goes to a motor actuator... This is a valve...

Hmmmm.... there are two of these valves... The other one is in the top left hand side of the pic. The red circle passes through the connector. As far as I can tell it is identical to the other one. I looked in PET and found one "90 degree valve" that looks to be in about the same position as this one... Not sure if it is the same...

What other tell tale signs would there be of a EBC? The panel under the radio was missing when I got it -- maybe he had the controls on that panel? What else should I look for? Does anyone have a 951 they can take a picture of (with glovebox out) this for me? Want to see what another car looks like...

Any other suggestions??

Those parts are the heater actuacting servos. Check the operation of the heater and AC. There is a good chance that the PO "modified" the wiring to overcome some sort of heater fault. So now you need to diagnose whatt he problem acually is before trying to fix it.
