Default Issue fully resolved with Sunset - they are great

I've been asked to take down my post complaining about Sunset. The issue has been fully resolved to my satisfaction. I will give Sunset a thumbs up and continue to recommend them as I always have.

Sunset =

I have taken out my premature complaints. There is some pertinent info from the original post which I'll leave, so the responses have context:

I called inquiring about a bunch of parts. I got a quote on each part, and I was quoted a subtotal (without shipping) which I agreed to.

I received the package. One part (water pump) was $150 more than I was quoted, because of a superceded part number. Also there were a bunch of parts added to the order which totaled several hundred bucks, including the expensive nuts .

They should have called and asked about a price increase, and about adding parts they thought I might find useful.. The charges made me panic, and post here rather than wait and call them first. Mistakes happen and there should always be an opportunity to fix it before judgement.

So all the guys at Sunset get my best wishes, especially Luke who was taking care of my order and helped me out. They are the best guys to deal with.

I have purchased several items from Sunset based on their stellar reputation on RL and other Porsche forums.

My experience with Sunset has always been great!

They have low prices and their Customer service has been exemplary.

They should be afforded the basic courtesy of making this right PRIOR to being called out on a public forum.

I would call them on Monday and speak with the parts manager and address your concerns with him. Perhaps he can give you a refund on the parts you don not want after they are sent back. I have found that most places will try and sell you the update kit with the new style water pump. I already had a newer pump when I replaced the one on my 86 and did no order the kit.

Interesting. I always ask whoever I'm talking to for a total less freight, not to the penny but just to get close. So if I'm expecting 500ish and they tell me 1200 we figure out where the difference is. Usually saves a lot of back and forth later.

+1

Very well stated on all points. I've been buying from Sunset for over 10 years. Phil Coy is excellent. And Bob runs the great parts department and is an active Rennlister.

I have great results with Sunset, even when I got a 911 wind deflector instead of a 968 one. The part did not have an OEM-style part number to double check (i.e. 911-104-xxx etc.) so the mistake is understandable and they made it right.

I would say you are not screwed until the matter is not resolved, and there is some complicity from you not asking for a total. I am surprised they did not offer a total, but then again maybe money is too vulgar a topic for the bulk of their customers.

So, you conspired to place an order that you are unhappy with and it remains to be seen if they will resolve it to your satisfaction. If you are out the finance charge for one month on the difference between what you expected to pay and what you did pay that seems a bit minor (maybe $12 if you have a crap credit card). You could also dip into savings to pay the card off in expectation of getting the charge refunded.

I never had an issue with Sunset at all. I'd call them and nicely say they made an error and certain items were misrepresented. You have a 99% chance they will correct it. No company wants to deal with unhappy customers on a public forum like RL. Until they balk you haven't been screwed, just unhappy.

I guess my humor didn't come through - I know its a simple error and I'm sure it will get fixed easily. I've dealt with sunset a lot and love them. I'm not calling them out, I was being sarcastic, I have faith in their customer service and reputation. I changed the thread title, hopefully it's more clear.

I just thought it was funny that the nuts were so ridiculously expensive.

And I did get an itemized quote and knew exactly what the subtotal should have been, except the WP which I forgot to write down the exact amount while on the phone with them.

I always bought WPs from Zims, but their awesome rebuilder just retired, and their new pumps are Chinese and Laso.

Now that's a better title. Good job. Most don't know how to do that.
