Default 951 PPI done

Well, I got a PPI done on the 951 I'm interested in. Here's the verdict.

The Bad:
1. Transmission is leaking. (Seal replacement)
2. Cam housing leaking. (not very badly)
3. AC Compressor is leaking.
4. Lower ball joints bad. (replace with Rennbay units)
5. Left lower control arm bushing is bad. (replace)
6. Balance shaft housing is leaking. (I see nothing anywhere)
7. Transmission mount is bad (Replace with Huntly racing unit)
8. New clutch.
9. Cam seals are leaking. (I don't see much of anything leaking.)

The Good:
1. The body is in great shape
2. Polished Fuchs.
3. The engine is very strong.

So, the question is, is it worth it? The asking price is $4800 as is. I feel at home in the shop and am confidant that I can do the repares my self. I think the car is worth $3500 max as is. What do others think?

"The bad" is that is has a new clutch or that it needs a new clutch?

I would say at $4800 it is a good buy.

Clutch could cost you $2,000. A/C $1,500.

When was the last timing belt installed? Water pump? Motor Mounts? Brakes? What is the engine compression? How is the interior?

Alex - How many miles?? The 4800 would be a buy around here, but lowball them baby!. All I'd worry about is the tranny. New clutch and leaking trans sounds like a odd combination.

Good luck!

It needs a new clutch. It has 187,xxx miles. I'm looking to do all the work my self. Save some $$.

Even with all of that, around here that would be a good buy. I think $3500 would insult the guy, unless he was motivated........

Keep looking, I got my 87 with just a few more miles for 3900 from a dealer. It needs some work but nothing more than you have listed there. Actually a little less and the body and interior are very clean. I did have to transport it from Cali though.

Tough question, with this many miles you'd have to massage the entire mechanics from bottom to top. Especially if you're planning to build it up with serious speed upgrades. I'd go as high as 4k then be prepared to spend anywhere from 4 to 8k in parts alone if you supply the labor.

Why would fixing a leaky AC compressor cost $1,500? You could buy a new compressor for way less than that.

Well, I'm gonna offer him $3250. I figure I'll take what he's asking and subtract out parts.
