Default Heee... A few Dyno Sheets

A little background... I have used this product in the past to help tune my 951 the 1st time around, and with my old setup, found the numbers that the Road Dyno gave me pretty much on par with what others were seeing on a real dyno.

These are all 3rd gear runs.

The old setup and sheet:
November 11, 2001 Run: Huntley Cheater K26/8 @18psi, APE Stage 2 Chips, B&B Exhaust, Huntley Stage 3 MAF, AFPR@29psi, stock injectors, tuned as good as I could get it.

The New Setup and sheets:
August 9, 2003 Run 1 - Fresh Motor, K27/8 @9psi, #55's, AFPR @33psi, Hard Pipes, B&B Exhaust, Stage 3 MAF, Technodyne Custom Chips, slightly rich tune for break in.

251hp, 251tq (hard to read.. need to get the file output thing worked out)

Same setup as above, just bumping up the boost to 15psi. The next sheets show me dialing it in.

290hp, 320tq

324hp, 328tq

323hp, 324tq

329hp, 331tq

So.. say this bad boy is off 15hp.. that still 315hp at 15psi! I am stoked. I can't wait to get it on the dyno, push the boost to 18psi and see how she goes. I will record each run with the road dyno as well for comparison purposes.

The guy who designed it swears it is within 5hp of a dyno jet.. I hope he's right!!

The thing to watch is the TQ numbers. They really don't change, but the curve does. As I lean out, it gets more stable.

For the HP numbers, as you lean out, they will come up. When they go back down, you have leaned out too far.

I still suspect I am a bit rich, but it's really close. I was also able to take care of most of my richness at idle. Still a little thick, but much better. I sat in the driveway for about 20 minutes adjusting the fuel pressure and the ARC-2 until it was as good as I could get it. After that, time for the road and the "top down" tuning I have done in the past.

Most tuners tell you to get the low end set, then the mid, then the high, but the problem is that the high effects all the other settings. I limp it to the highway, set it rich, and get on it. After each pull, I'll make the needed asjustments to the high end, coast at 55 to adjust the mid, then toss in the clutch and blip the throttle to adjust the low. Once it's close at that setting, I'll download the dyno run on my laptop, take a peek, and do it all over again.

Fun stuff!!

Pretty cool stuff Perry. Did you do the DIY Home Dyno or did you purchase the complete Road Dyno unit?

I have the whole Road Dyno Kit. With the gear ratios from the manuals, 3295 weight from the truck scales, and current temp, pressure, and humidity from my television statation, I can be pretty damn accurate.

Even if you ignore the numbers, it is a great tool to help nail down mixtures. More power = better tune, less power = worse tune. It's about that simple.

Brian, looking good!

Is it possible to hardwire this stuff in? Just get a WBO2 with logging, and you have all the info you'll ever need to set up the car! I wonder what this stuff TT and Fast951 will add? Cool!!!!!

Sure.. there are 2 ways to log the run, you can use the inductive pickup or you can use the pulsed signal to the coil/tach. You need to specify what one you will use in the software.. ie 1:4 or 1:1. (1 spark per 4 revolutions for imductive, or 1:1 for the coil)

I have not had any luck with the direct output for the coil or tach signal on my friends GTI. The inductive signal works great, but for cars with coil packs, you cannot use it.

I will have a WBO2 here shortly, so my tuning tools will be complete.

Hell, then you could throw a laptop in the front seat and not have to go home every time. Just make a run, view it instantly and adjust right there.
