CV Joint Boot Torn

OK, I have removed the drive shaft and removed the CV joints and boots.
In disassembling the joints, I noticed neither had the cone washer (as shown in Van's video using a 914) as part of the assembly. Are they not used on the 944?
I'm guessing I need them. Could damage have been done?

I'm pretty sure it has cone washers - I seem to recall that they actually have spline notches in them.
They are just there to make sure the axle doesn't get pushed into the CV joint too far and get stuck on forever. If your joints came off, then no damage has been done.
