No. I think it's in the brain under the dash by the hood release.

Stick your head under the driver's side dash, and look above where your left shin would be. There is an aluminum box about the size of a VHS tape. There are two wirin harnesses attached (both next to each other facing the rear of the car), and the box is held in place by two 12 mm nuts (one at the rear and one at the front). The nut at the front can be a real bitch to get at. Use a flashlight to get a look at where it is.

Tom- that's exactly where it will be on the late 944's.. above the hood release.

My cruise control isn't working. I have a receipt from the p/o saying "needs new cruise control brain". Is that what you're fixing Tom?? How much for the repair part?

i bid on what was listed as a "servo" on ebay thinking i could swap that part.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2426871687
if it is the right part don't bid against me. i will donate my old one to whoever is soldering them as a core.

if it is the wrong part, and someone needs a servo, dont bid against me, i will have it shipped to you for what i get it for. unless it is the wrong part, and i get outbid.

I'm pretty sure the "servo" is located under the hood, just in front of the battery compartment. I'm also 99% sure that the servo is not causing your problems. The problem is the "brain" in the box above the hood release.

I believe a new cruise brain from a dealer will run you about $500. Some Rennlisters have fixed their cruise brains by resoldering connections on the circuit board. Search for "cruise control re-works" and you'll come up with a thread started by SidViscous. He fixed my cruise brain with the resolder method. Perhaps you can try the fix yourself, or find someone who can do it for you. You might also try used parts dealers to see if you can get a functional used cruise brain.

The servo is is front of the battery and is rarely what goes bad, the control box under the dash is almost always the culprit,I took mine to a CB radio repair shop and had it resoldered fo $10. Works like a charm now.

Come to think of it I don't think that I've ever read of the servo going bad , but I'm sure they do.

How do you "RE" solder? Just heat all the joints with a soldering iron, let dry, re-install and check?

I think Sid Viscous is soldering these as a "side business."

i e mailed the seller and asked him to confirm the cruise control parts includes the brain. lets see what happens, the worst is i retract my bid citing a brain fart. mistook servo to mean brain.

Tom,

Does that mean the brain inside your head needs re-soldering too???

Give him a chance, eh? Who knows, this might open up another career for Sid. Discount surgeon.
