Default I guess there are no stupid questions...

My hazard switch fell into the dash the other day. I went to fix it and discovered that there appears to be nowhere for it to clip to anything. The trim piece doesn't appear to be cracked or broken, and the hazard switch itself seems to have all the clips that it came with as a baby. Is the trim piece supposed to have complete holes for the hazard switch to clip into? Am I stupid? Wait, don't answer the second one.

It clips to the cutout in the dash itself. The opening sometimes enlarges and the clips will no longer grab. You either need to gently spread the clips on the hazard light, or try to build up the dash opening somehow.

If I remember correctly ( I could be very wrong) on the late car it clips to the trim. Recheck it.

That's kind of what it looked like to me too. I'll recheck it tonight, the little clips may just be collapsed more than they were supposed to be...this has been very helpful, thanks!

Assuming you have a late car, it is likely the trim piece itself has broken where the switch snaps in. If so, you must remove the trim to repair or replace it. You need to remove the HVAC control unit (four screws), then the trim (four more screws).

You are correct as there are no stupid questions. All old Dash plastic trim is brittle from age and heat over the years. Buying another Old piece is just wasting money. Just go ahead and buy a NEW long piece of trim. I tried to repair that trim and it broke again in another place when reinstalling it. IIRC, a new piece of trim costs about $65.00 plus s/h.
