well when i bought the car the a/c already didn't work.but the PO included a used a/c compressor so it could be the compressor or something else.the blower works but blows warm air,i haven't looked at the compressor while the engine was running so...would know if the compressor is working or not.what could it be?thanx in advance.

Shorty,
Throw us a bone here........Take a look at the system and tell us what you can. It's pretty hard to diagnose it with the information you've given us but I'll try..........You compressor is locked up or your clutch is bad or the expansion valve is stuck or the low pressure switch is bad or the fuse is blown or the system has no freon in it or the compressor plug is disconnected or you climate control unit is shot or your heater clip broke or your system has a lot of moisture in it or your system is overcharged or..... this can go on for days.
Find out if the compressor is cycling/engaging first and we can go from there. Sorry for being a smart ***.

Not hard. Its on the bottom of the motor....our 86 still doesn't have the AC working...there is no power running to the low-pressure switch from the relay, no power from the icing sensor to the relay, and no power to the icing sensor from the in-dash control unit....(I hope the control unit isn't broken). BTW, 86 944....there's no fuse labeled 'Air Conditioning' like on my 944S..

You can just turn your AC on. If you see the clutch on the front of the compressor locking up and turning, then you compressor seems to be working and that indicates a low freon charge.
If the clutch ASSY doesn't turn, then either you clutch/compressor is bad, you are very low on freon, or you are not getting power to the compressor. If this is the case, start by jumping the low pressure cut off switch to verify compressor operation. If that doesn't work check to see tht you are getting power to the clutch unit.

thread resurrected, i have no power going to my a/c compressor, but it was jumped and it does work, also the system is filled with freon.
The relay and fuse are both fine, the tech who charged the system put a volt meter on the wires right by the receiver/dryer. Cycling valve or switch or something, i forgot what he called it.
anyway, the in car switch does turn the fan on, but not the compressor.
so how can i diagnose where the power is getting lost, and what should i check?
thanks.

You have provided some great information. I have seen and used it before.
Many times for the damaged camshaft key pictures.
Thanks

really good info 944time.
the connectors that the tech was checking by the receiver/dryer is for the low pressure switch? if so, he got no voltage on any connector, with the fuse and relay good.
so this could still be a faulty pressure switch/ deicing switch/ or control ****?
will check all of these if i can find them.
