Can someone give me a real rough idea what the total cost would be going the Renegade Hybrids route? I'm curious.

Thanks
Sam

Hi 944lt1, do you mind telling us how long was the install? What did it cost? I also heard you have to get rid of your brake booster? manual brakes? Very eager to do the same.

thanks!

As someone posted before, check with Predator. He lives here in Nashville and he has bought some parts from me. I have seen his car a few times and it is unreal. The conversion is so well done that it looks factory. The car is fixin to get a even more powerful motor. He has a new one on order from Summitt racing that should be here in a few days. He is partners with some guys in south Florida doing these conversions. If you are serious you should really get with him. You can check his car out on P-car online.

944LT1 - How does your car handle with all that weight up front?

To answer questions above...
1. The conversion parts run 6k give or take. That would get most everything you need including a cheap donor engine. (You would spend more for a newer or "built" engine.) Then there is the labor......hopefully you can do that yourself besides you are the cheapest mechanic you know!
Keep in mind if you start with a running 944 you can sell allot of parts.

2. I work a full time job 60+ hrs, so only working on the conversion a few nights a week and weekends, I have done it in 5 weeks. Its not hard just Labor intensive.

3. My car has 951 brakes with good pads, stops great but takes slightly more pedal pressure.

4. My car handles fine. However I have gone to full coil-over suspension and every bushing, bearing, wear parts etc. have been replaced. The entire car has basically been rebuilt.

5. Understand a project of this magnitude will have bugs to be ironed out. I converted the engine in 5 weeks but have been perfecting it for two years.

Better than the old 8V?...You must be referring to hp/torgue 'cause 320,000 kms is nothing to sneeze at...What else lasts 320K?

theres a awesome 1 in Sport Compact Car in the august issue, the Street (readers rides) pg 48. its the best 1 ive ever seen. everything , rollbar, harnesses, halon, brakes, everything... and it passed calif smog.
its for sale for $21,000, sounds high but its a awesome ride, he'll sell it when he finds the right buyer.
