LR Chassis Brace & ER Rear A-Arm bushing
Hey guys,
I picked one of these chassis braces up for the hell of it:
http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/944SUSLCB.html
And I have the Elephant Racing Monoball
http://www.elephantracing.com/suspen...m#control_rear
The LR part came with longer bolts. However, the bump on the monoball means the LR bracket doesn't want to sit flat.
I can take up the slack with 4-5 standard washers (or try to find some thicker ones). But I'm wondering if this is stupid? Is that going to weaken this mount considerably?

While I'm at it, the hardware store doesn't have new metal 12x1.50 locking nuts for the eccentric rear a-arm bolt. It had nylon versions.
Should I use the new nylon nuts, reuse the old metal locking nuts, or try to find new metal locking nuts?

I've seen some other stores sell something similar. I guess my question wasn't specifically about the brace, but the risks of having too many spacers on the rear mounting point. I've heard that extending bolts like that can be detrimental to their strength. The brace itself is putting extra load on these bolts, and it's mostly sheer load I think.
But it's probably fine and I'm just paranoid

I would be tempted to drill those bearing mounting holes out and fit an extended tubular steel sleeve that clears the bump. I just don't like stacking washers in place of spacers, just my 2c.

A longer bolt has a lower spring rate and therefore is less likely to lose clamping force under dynamic conditions. And the brace reacts load from one mount to the other, effectively sharing the load and relieving the mount of some load. So, all in all, no concern.
I would use spacers rather than a stack of washers just to avoid all the negative comments from people who look under the car... amazing what people will pick up on!
Cheers,
Mike
