I've got two test subjects; a 986/996 wiper motor assembly I'll install in one car, and a Mk3 motor assembly I'm going to install in the other. Both are early cars. I had to modify the mounting plate for the 996 motor, but am confident that one will work. I found a brand-new factory Mk3 motor on E-Bay for a good price, but don't have it yet.

I received the second wiper motor yesterday, the one for a VW Mk3. Physically it's nearly the same exact size as the Porsche 996/986 motor. I don't see the benifit of using one over the other at the moment as they both seem to operate at the same speed, and are both reasonably plentiful at reasonable prices. My installation is into an early type chassis. The mounting bracket must be modified as shown in the picture. One thing I don't like about either of them are the connectors; neither are available at reasonable prices. For the VW motor the only vendor I found was in Germany, so the shipping cost quite a bit. I should add that I was able to find the connector housing here through Pelican and others, but I couldn't find a part number on the terminals. The vendor in Germany offered both as a set. For the Porsche motor I had to settle for a used connector from DC Auto, which cost about $50.00. I still have to find new terminals for my own wire. Attached are some pictures comparing the two. The motor on the left is the VW motor, the one on the right is the Porsche. Interestingly, the VW motor has the terminal designations molded into it's connector and are an easy match for terminals on my car, eliminating the guesswork. Rennlister seventy-seven posted the pin-out for the Porsche motor (thank you!).

Talking Windshield wiper motor

Dear Tempest: Great close up pic of the connector and associated wiring! I'm sure I'll probably be doing about the same thing to my car in the not to far distant future! Great Thread! Highly appreciated!
