Default NorCal mechanic needed for 924S

Anyone know of a reputable NorCal shop that will work on my son's 87 924S? I've done everything I can think of to fix a poor running/idle problem and I don't have the time or patience to continue trying to figure out why his car stopped running right. Obviously don't want to pay more than the thing is worth to get it fixed.

I've put the DME and air flow controller in another 924S and they seemed to work fine. I've checked fuel pressure, timing belt, plugs, wires, coil. I've checked for air leaks and tightened all the connections, removed the intake, checked the operation of the air control valve and it's not sticking. Replaced the O2 sensor. I can't figure it out and don't want to just throw parts at it hoping I guess right.

Right now I've got nothing else for him to drive to work and school but my '93 928 GTS. He's happy. I'm not.... If you see a 19 year old tooling around in a red GTS with a big smile on his face, it's probably my son.

I live in Fairfield. Appreciate any advice on a shop in the Bay Area or Sacramento!

It's working normally and adjusted correctly. Actually had that problem with an '89 928. Good suggestion though.

I've only had experience with mechanics in the tri-valley. Some good shops there, but I know that would be quite the trip from Fairfield.

would've been me but I live in San diego now, no longer in the bay area. Quadruple check for vacuum leaks, all lines, and throttle body. use propane around the throttle body seals and intake manifold seals. could be the vacuum hose under the intake , near the brake booster, very common.

Check the speed and ref sensors yet? Checked the timing marks for a skipped tooth on the Tbelt? DME Temp sensor?

ummmm sprayed with starting fluid around the intake and other vac hoses looking for leaks?

Thats all ive got that you haven't done yet off the top of my head.

So, have you had any success identifying the root cause of this idle issue? What, exactly, is the "poor running/idle" problem?

How does it run off idle/part throttle/full throttle?

Idle issues are often traced back to ICV, TPS, AFM, FPR/FPD, and vacuum lines.

Umm, he's driving your '93 928?? Wouldn't happen in my house. Is the 924 not driveable with only an idle issue? Maybe the 19-yo should spend a little time on RL to get his ride back on the road. Either that, or bike to work.

Good luck.
