Default Detonation Sensor on the S

Reading Page 4 of the S2 Review from R&T. It says the S has an "overeager detonation sensor that retarted timing unnecessarily". Is this fixable? Different sensor, or resistors? Or R&T is wrong?

Part of the programming for the DME. If you understand the programming and can change it nothing is impossible.

Wondering if anyone else has pondered this. If it is putting out a certain resistance at the low end which is retarding the timing, then I would think a resistor inline with the sensor would be able to trick the DME.

Just a thought...

you know...
after reading that article i was wondering the same thing...

why hasnt anyone come out with a mod to "fix" this?
i mean porsche "fixed" it in the s2 so...

anyway its just interesting. but apparently.. and most likely.. theres nothing really out there that addresses this, except maybe those 'upgraded' dme chips? or how about tossing an s2 chip into an s? hmm..

How do you know it's the DME retarding spark that's causing a problem?

Ah.. I didn't think there was a Simon, CT..

I'm guessing the detonation sensor is feeding it's data to the DME, which would intern retard the timing. I'm being all theretical here..

The autothority chip I installed says it is supposed to disable the detonation sensor...also says to use 94 octane fuel...

How is the performance after the chip? Any change?

Yes, has a distinct increase in power at about 4k rpm. Before the chip, the power seemed to be somewhat constant. I believe it changes the fuel/oxy mixtures to achieve this. I recommend a chip if you do not have one, but the Autothority in my car may be dated (its at least 5yrs old). There are probably newer and better chips available.
