Default carbs on an 87 944

Hi guys. New here. Trying to bring an 87 back to life that had been in storage a couple of years before I recently acquired it. Some chewed wires. Ran briefly then no spark, no fuel. New crank sensors, wires, coil - no help. Soooooo,,,, being old school, I'm thinking simplify with some sort of a carb setup and perhaps a mechancal distributor or Megajolt. Ran across some old threads, but was wondering if anyone is running such a setup or who to talk to to get going on this. A manifold of some sort is 1st on the list. Michael Mount or some one else still doing this? Need to get this baby on the road asap! Cheers, Ron.

For the amount of work building a manifold would take, you could fix the electrical issues and get it running with the stock EFI or even go with MegaSquirt to simplify the wiring.

I dont mind carbs on a car that was well, carbed. But going backwards and swapping a FI car to carb is a job for someone who doesnt understand how to diagnose fuel injection. If you are unsure where to start, clarks garage has lots of info on troubleshooting no starts and this forum is full of guys who know the motronic system in and out. Good luck!

I have toyed with that idea in the past. I'm old school myself. My thoughts were 4 Mikuni carbs meant for older Harley--Davidsons (they've all been injected since 2005) on individual runners. Came to my senses and learned to live with EFI however ......... those carbs and a dual point Honda 750 breaker plate and dual lead coils adapted for providing spark and we're back in the stone age. But at least I'd know how it works I always look at 356s and marvel at there simplicity. FWIW all the really big inch stroker Harley motor guys run a single big Mikuni. Checking spark plug color and making jetting changes accordingly is becoming a lost art among engine tuners. Most use a laptop.
