Well.. the turbo has about 1/32 or so play up down left and right... and about the same ammount in and out... Is this too much? I need to put in the new BOV and see if that fixes some of the noise (my feeling is that it will). Ill keep my fingers crossed... BTW is $70 too much to pay for the SAAB BOV?

Thanks
Chris

Hopefully it will come in around 4:30 today. I'll slap it on and see how that works! Now if only I could find a new intake boot for under $70!!

Jeez its only rubber!!

Just put the bypass valve in... not much difference in boost time - or spool time... seems the same... oh well -- it seems to have silenced some of the noise. ill have to look for more leaks. back to the garage

Well... I still think I have a leak on the high pressure side of my intake... Like I said, I had the same noise when my 79' 924 with BAE turbo kit would get a crack in the boot on the high pressure side... anyone have good way of testing for leaks in innercooler, etc... I can pressurize it with a tire pump but cannot cap one side and don't have a fitting to restrict the other side small enough to fit my tire pump-

The best way to pressurize I found was to remove the AFM box at the end of the J-boot, plug the J-boot with an oil filter or fuel filter. Then plug any open connections with bolts and a zip tie. You should also plug the exhaust pipe if possible (i used some industrial shrink wrap and zip ties). Then i hooked up the air compressor with my tire filler connection and filled it to about 5psi. I could hear my leak right away.

Great idea!! Never thought to plug the muffler - I will try this when I get back on Sunday.

Are you guys running open air filters (e.g. cone, etc)? I just recently installed one and noticed a BIG difference in the amount of turbo- and air intake- related noise. With the stock air box I could hear the faint sound of the turbo spooling (or so I think). With the cone filter, the "sucking whistley air" description sounds about right. The majority of the noise kicks in right at 1 BAR on the factory gauge.

I hope this means my car is OK, and therefore your car is OK, too!

Still using the stock intake... I can really hear the intake though?? I just installed a new air sensor to turbo boot and everything is the same... I heard the exact same sound on a new turbo eclipse... I'm going to do another pressure test now...

Hmm, I thought that turbo mike said that no movement was acceptable? In and out? thrust wise? You said you had movement? seems like a bad turbo? just what i read...
