I clay-barred my mom's 528i BMW in just under an hour. those people who know the car, know it's DAMN big...only exceeded in size by the 7 series BMW and the X5.

Yes, the clay bar is a cleaning agent. not to do anything else. it helps remove tar, bird ****, road paint, and old wax. upon the finishing of removing that, you have a smooth, fresh palate in which to work your detailing magic. if you have oxidation, it's recommended that you polish it a bit before you apply the wax. it won't necessarily make your car shine more, but it makes it so there is nothing in the paint or old wax that will be ground in by the buffer when you go over it. I'm going to detail my 924S soon, and I will certainly clay bar it. make it look good

Also, as for the mildly abrasive statement that operator said, Yes, it is. that is why you put down some sort of lubricant. so that way the clay doesn't imbed itself in the paint. that would be a bitch..."what are these yellow spots all over your car?" "clay bar accident" "what?"

Pink??? My car turned several wonderful shades of orange. Give the bar a whirl, and post the results. Would be great to find out that's all I needed to do to make my car look good.

I got mine at Advanced Auto. Mine was made by Mother's, came in a big red box with the clay bar, spray detailer, and carnuba wax for about $18. You could probably find it just about any parts store.

Original, thats the one I used on my car. Maybe it was just me, but it didnt do diddily for my paint finish. I guess its because other than chips and scratches (and a lot of em), I dont have a lot of crap buildup on my paint since its in the elements 40hrs a year.

UD,
I didn't hear the "sounds" the instructions said. But all I really had was old wax and maybe some overspray that came off. What it did do was make it a lot easier to wax the car by hand. You can literally feel a difference in the surface of my car. Not worth doing more than once a year I'd say, but worth it none-the-less.
