Anybody near Los Angeles that can re-seal a hatch?
Looking for anyone/any shop that can repair properly a 944 hatch that has separated the glass from the frame. Not a temporary fix, but a permanent (or at least a 10+ year) repair.
I have 2 hatches that need servicing...please let me know if you know anyone!

Call Robert @ R2 Racing (http://www.r2racingshop.com/) in Santa Clarita. He has a guy that did a nice job resealing my 968 hatch. Scraped everything out and resealed with a nice clean line. Cost was either $250 or 300.
He's also a very good mechanic for anything 944/968 - he has a few 944 turbo racecars and organizes some track days too.

if you are gong to have a shop do it, be sure they are trustworthy - I declined to do this for the OP (no time, not fun, I don't need $) but a good glass shop that can do windshields should be able to do it, it is just tedious. Be absolutely sure they use both primers, if they don't use the primers, the urethane won't stick right - the hatch has different forces on it than a windshield. I recommended a specific glass shop that I trust to the OP - it would probably be a lot cheaper if you removed the trim rather than making the shop do it - that is where much of the patience comes in - with stuck screws, etc.

$400 is probably not that unreasonable. as I recall, a tube of urethane is about $35 to $40, and I used two of them, and the primers are about $15 each, so that's about $100 for materials. If you are careful, it takes hours to separate the glass (it took me and an assistant a full day to do the job), and you risk breaking the glass (which a "professional" did - of course I refused to pay him, and he drove off angry but he didn't pay for a new hatch at $500), and there is all the trim that may be corroded and hard to remove.

Update for LA folks..
Called the shop that william b noble referred me to. They referred me to another shop down the street called C&J glass.
Dropped my hatch off on a Saturday morning, it was fixed by Monday. The guy basically works 7 days a week 8-6, very nice guy named John. Said he'd done a ton of the 944 windows before, he's been doing glass since the 60s.
Total cost...$75. He even painted a new strip of black over the glue at the top of the hatch frame/glass.
Will be interesting to see how it holds up especially as summer arrives here. Might have him do my spare hatch just in case.

My quote was $150. I bought all of the relevant primers and sealant, but still prefer a pro. We shall see.
