A guy I know in town is installing a good NA motor into a NA car and even THAT is being annoying. A lot of it comes down to dealing with PO neglection, and mismatch of early/late wiring etc.

That's the easy part. Now start looking for turbo or better brakes, better suspension, turbo transaxle & axles, bigger wheels & tires, add the conversion kit and you are almost ready to start.

No point in doing all the engine work without some chassis, brakes, and suspension work too.
Also, +1 on V2's help. This type of thing is infinitely easier with the help of a knowledgable person.

I did it. I bought a donor car for $1,200. It had 99% of the stuff to do the swap. It took me 2 months of steady work. Was it worth it? Yes. Did it make the car faster? oh yea!!. It still not as fast as my Corvette, but just as fun to drive. See my link on 944online.com:

I was going to do a SBC/TPI swap, but it measures too tall and you will probably need a hood scoop. That's why they use LS motors. They are really short. But you still need all of the supporting parts.

doing a swap now
I am currently installing a turbo engine in a 89S2 body, yes it is a ton of work but well worth it in the end of you have the patience for it.
Don't forget to install all the proper heat shields!

I think it's great that people are doing projects like this and other engine swaps on these cars = back on the road. Problem occurs when doing it to "save money" and then it ends up as a basket case. If you don't have the time and $ needed to do it right the first time, save yourself the headaches/cussing and grab a 951.
