Default NA-T

Bought a parts car a few years ago, an 88 924S that someone ran a Ford Turbo and larger Bosch/Ford AFM. It also had an extra injector (std cold start injector) rigged to it to spray when the boost was up. It blew the head gasket. Not the best workmanship...

More Pics here. You will love the welding on the pipes!

How much $$$$ do you have invested in that total? How many hours of work did it take to get it done?

Thanks! I probably have about $4500 in the entire swap. However, that includes a bunch of spare parts too. $2k of that price was buying all new bearings, gaskets, seals, and hoses.

I'm not sure how many hours went into the swap. It took me a little over a year for me to build in my spare time while also working on two other projects. I suppose that it could be knocked out in a month or so by someone with more time.

Vrocket I bought the car with no motor. I had most of the parts to do the turbo swap. here are a few more pics with the progress from the weekend.

Anyone have a couple spare mounting grommets and spacers for the oil cooler???

Its getting down to the little bits here and there that I need.

I did a turbo engine swap in september. I upgraded quite a lot along the way and overall I could have bought a Turbo car but it wouldn't have any of the rebuilt engine/suspension/brakes/gearbox/turbo/ECU this one has.

If you're going to do it, listen to the guys in this thread who clearly know the amount of work involved. It's not impossible just hard grafting.

I don't think anyone is saying it can't or shouldn't be done.

Most "can I turbo my NA?" threads are posted by people who want to save money by doing it themselves instead of just buying a turbo.
Turbo-ing an NA is fine, it's just not the cheaper, easier option(at least not if it's done right).

It seems a bit insane to turbo an N/A 944. Wisdom and logic do not approve of this idea. Buy a turbo and begin there.

There are many answers to this question.

If you turbo NA first thing you need after making a crossover pipe or putting 951 one in is engine management and injectors+ intercooler.
I would turbocharge US spec NA over making entire 951 swap simply because you don't need a huge load of wiring that comes with 951 DME+KLR etc.

If you buy a cheap donor 951 then it is the most reasonable thing just to swap everything over but anything else and you are better off making a complete custom kit. That assumes you are good with welding because having this job done in a workshop by someone else will triple the cost of having 951 swap.
